TEMPLE TO BIG EAST

News conference scheduled for 5:00PM today - Temple will join for football for 2012-2013 season and all other sports for 2013-2014 season. BE expected to pay fees (some 6 million total) for Temple to leave MAC and A-10.

Great! We will need a caged in area for the new Temple fans at the Big East Tournment. Get ready for the worst fans in the Big East!!

from today's news conf Comm. said BE is open to discuss letting Pitt and Syracuse leave after the 2012-13 school year and they are looking for a Western football-only partner by the time Navy joins in 2015 to make equal football divisions of 7.

Not true. I live in Philly (not a philly sports fan at all), but they are very excited down here to be joining our conference and their college hoop fans and not really like their pro sports fans.

Having Temple and Memphis coming on board will be fantastic for our bball league. I'll take those two over Pitt/WVU. Temple rivalry with Nova should be fantastic as well. Great when there's a built-in dislike.

Zagg is reporting that the Big East might be open to letting out 'Cuse and Pitt a year earlier than planned.

“open to having the discussions with both Pittsburgh and Syracuse” about them leaving the conference for the ACC in 2013 as opposed to 2014."

No problem. Make em pay a nice exit fee and move those losers on their way. I'm going to the store to buy a happy retirement card for Boeheim as we speak.

I agree. Now that we know the big east isn't going to fall apart. there is no reason to drag out the break-up process.

for those who dislike Villanova for their fight to keep Temple out of the BE this was reported on ESPN's site. Villanova apparently was able to extract a pound of flesh in agreeing to let Temple in.
-----------

To ease any concerns from the Wildcats about the move, the Big East will offer financial assistance to Villanova as it explores moving its football program from FCS to FBS. The conference will waive the entry fee if the school meets requirements and is admitted as a football-playing member within the next three years.

"It's critical that the conference and both universities succeed in Philadelphia," said Villanova's president, the Rev. Peter M. Donohue. "Even as my loyalty and obligation is to Villanova, we recognized early on that we could achieve this win-win-win, which ultimately we did."
-----------

And should 'Nova upgrade (horrible for BE fb IMO) if there would ever be a split and Catholic bb league Villanova wouldn't be part of it.

Don't be so sure. If there was a split, still nobody would want Nova football. Nobody wanted Temple now besides the Big East and they're light years ahead of Nova in football. Delusions of grandeur.

I may just be reading something into it but if the Louisville to Big XII rumors come to fruition Louisville would have until June to announce they're leaving the BE in order to qualify for the BIG XII in season 2014-2015. That would the third fb season from now and the BE has given Villanova three years to come to a decision on upgrading. I'm guessing the BE is looking at Villanova as the possible replacement for Louisville on the fb side of the ledger. I doubt the bb schools will split from the all sports schools but if Nova was in the BE in fb and there was a split I'd be shocked if Nova didn't go with them. Would leave BE bb at a big disadvantage with only six schools - SJ, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, Georgetown, DePaul.

I'd bet on Air Force.

Good bet.
Marinarra said they are looking only at a west coast fb school.

(Multiple sources have told the Hotline that Air Force could leave the MWC and join the Big East now that Navy is headed to that conference in 2015.)
