Techs and refs

Enough with the refs. We are undersized and foul the crap out of big men to try and compensate. we got some good calls today and some bad ones. When refs call a tight game it always benefits the team that dumps it down inside and plays bully ball. We take jumpers and 3s.

Strus erupted, we still have no one who can guard Femi, and we lost. End of story. Ponds had a hot stretch but he’s still just not all there. Heron has gone AWOL. LJ after a great first half was MIA. We just aren’t that good. We arent.

Making mistakes and being screwed by the refs are not mutually exclusive.

We aren’t THAT small either. Roberts is 6’9. Keita is 6’9 240. Clark is 6’7 235. Olijobo is 6’9 not 7’0.

The Warriors won an NBA title playing 6’6 Draymond Green at center in the finals.

The warriors have Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. 2 of the best 3 point shooters of all time. When you are drilling 3 after 3, it hurts less when a team hits layups all day and lives at the line.

But we just hit 9 threes. Not good enough.

Clark thinks he’s a guard. The other bigs aren’t experienced enough or skilled enough to play solid defense. Almost all of Simon’s 5 fouls were boneheaded reach in’s he didn’t need to do. But they were fouls.

The only one who has a legit gripe is Roberts. A couple of his fouls on Femi were BS. But that doesn’t turn this outcome around.

Bottom line is Strus kept hitting shots on the same elbow coming off the same screen and we didn’t change anything, we let him do it over and over. Ball game. Whining about refs after every loss is a losers mentality

Very well said we've been losing for 20 years!

You said it all.

Let's go Mets - at least until July when they are 12 games behind and have 10 guys on the dl

You can feel whatever way you want but we had four starters foul out man. That’s almost impossible. The refs kept DePaul in the game in the first half with the parade to the foul line when tbey couldn’t buy a basket...and then the tech. Did you have audio on? I clearly heard DePaul players curse repeatedly after calls against them and then demonstrably complain. “F*ck! That’s f*cjing bulkshit ref!”

Our guys can’t even play defense without a foul call.

Does anyone really think we lost this game because of the refs? We earned virtually every foul call. It is not like they were not calling fouls both ways. We are lucky Femi cannot shoot free throw or it would have been much worse. The only foul I did not understand was the double T in the first half. I assume they were jawing at each other and the refs were trying to diffuse the situation. If a team has decent bigs, the formula is pretty simple on how to beat us. We should be 10 point dogs to Xavier. Our only chance is to have a great day shooting threes.

Everytime we play a big team. Foul calls pile up. Different refereeing crews. But the calls pile up.

I think we just foul bigger and tougher teams. I believe that more than I believe in a league wide conspiracy where every crew is out to get St. John’s because mullin does what every coach in the country does and works the refs.

Look at every team that runs their offense through their high scoring guards, Marquette/nova/Hall/Creighton. We beat those teams. But if we go up against a big team, it’s over. That’s why we will lose against X, and with a bad first round BET matchup, we will lose again and be in the NIT

Enough of the personal attacks, please gentlemen. It's been a frustrating day.

Another thing, we commit a great number of stupid fouls. I'm talking about Clark out top fouling somebody who's going nowhere, Simon over the back trying to grab offensive boards and reaching while guarding on the perimeter, the list of guys goes on and on but those two guys have the experience not to commit those kind of fouls, just frustrating to watch.

We still haven't grasped the concept of just letting it go sometimes. Its the block and steal mentality. You will not be able to block and steal on every possession.

Clark is one is the dumbest foulers I’ve ever seen at any level of basketball. I noted this when he first comittted based on his absurd foul rate at Michigan State. You can only put so much of that on a coach.

What’s almost as bad are his reactions to obvious fouls. He actually hurts the team by adamantly protesting them because it makes our protests after bad calls seem less authentic.

We make dumb fouls. The refs also don’t do us any favors. Our relationship with the refs remind me of two friends or family members that get constantly overreact to each other.

This is becoming a bigger issue as we can't get go a game without getting a T from one of our players. There needs to be some accountability on this. It is not like the NBA where it is a free throw and move on. This counts as a personal foul and can hurt us in certain situations. I believe Heron got one yesterday and he was in foul trouble. Players need to be smarter and shut their mouths and leave it to the coaches.
