Techs and refs

i really don't remember an SJU team that had this problem with calls and i've been watching them for 45 years!
Nobody knows what the players say or Mullin for that matter. If you say something out of line. Especially over and over again I have no qualms about the officials holding us to a shorter leash
So if refs aren’t calling fouls because they are unhappy with the team that’s ok?

But Mullin has been the coach for only 4 of those 45 years. I've been watching them for 55 years and do not remember a worse coached team.

Never mind me, think you were talking about techs.

Where were you kept during the norm years?

I believe this coaching is every bit as bad as the Norm years.

What do you say about the games we’ve looked great in? Just players playing well?

We have had poor Treatment ftom the Refs since the first Seton Hall game . It seems the Refs who do our Games are taking it out on us , because we bitched about that awful Call and it got a lot of National Media Attention on Stephens . Ponds hasn’t shot anywhere near the number of foul shots he did last year . Howard on the other hand gets a lot of calls and goes to the line a lot . It makes a difference . But , the Refs tonight lost control of the game . They don’t even give Mullin the courtesy of the sideline chat that Cooley gets away with all season . It makes a difference . While we lost this game for a lot of reasons , the disparity of calls should warrant AD Cragg asking for a meeting with Val Ackerman and Stu Jackson at BE headquarters . The Refs tonight were just as out of control as Mullin and Ponds were . They need to be conferred.with on that basis alone . On a more important note , let’s hope Ponds doesn’t have a Separated or Broken Wrist .

A separated or broken wrist? He dribbled a basketball and high fived people for 35 minutes after he was on the ground. Come on
Wow.....my contribution to this thread will just be to repeat.....

Free throws
Xavier -33
SJU -5

I am headed home starving, because there sure was no home cookin'.
You could more or less justify the 33 attempts Xavier got, but we should have had a lot more then 5, IMO.

Heck, there were at least 5 times in the first half where Ponds got pounded while driving the ball on the way up, and none of them were called. And then, we wonder why he stops driving, and has bad games. These weren't even 50/50 calls. They were hard fouls that were missed. You could hear them from the sixth row (because that's where I was sitting).

But, speculation has surfaced ftom time to time that Ponds May have hurt the Wrist during the Butler game . He hits the floor a lot , taking the beating he gets going to the hoop . Tonight , he injured it again . And , playing the second half , as he did , does not mean he’s not going to get X rays or MRI tomorrow . Again , your Medical Assessment , might be spot on . Like I said , I hope you are right and I am wrong . The Refs didn’t make his wrist feel better though .

Looked like he injured his left elbow at the end of the Butler game. Tonight, he was icing his right wrist at the half. They looked like different injuries, FWIW.

That is how I recall it also. Left forearm against Butler.

This probably won't be a popular post but I am sick and tired of Mullin's antics on the bench. He argues almost every call that goes against St John's. I've nicknamed him Boeheim Jr. It has been said that a team takes on the personality of it's coach. Well, I'm equally unhappy with the constant complaining and antics of our players when they are whistled for a foul. Mullin and the kids certainly aren't endearing themselves to the refs and, for better or worse, the refs control the game.

While the officiating was poor, we lost for a lot of reasons. Just a few:

1. Our best player scored 2 points in the first half and our second best player didn't play
2. We got killed on the boards. They scored way too many points on offensive put backs
3. We didn't shoot a single free throw until there was 12:30 left in the game
4. We were a step slow all game. They got the majority of 50-50 balls
5. They played harder and smarter and seemed to want it more than we did

We don't match up well with teams that have decent big guys. This was another such case
With our last 2 regular season games on the road, we will have trouble winning either one
I hate arguing and complaining to referees, but how could you expect someone to play or coach in part of this and not? Ponds literally had 2 fantastic defensive plays stripped from him on anticipated foul cAlls that resulted in 4 free throws. Did we even shoot 4 free throws?
Ponds was also blatantly fouled on at least 3 drives in full view of these 3 buffoons.

The mos5 egregious of all was the young ref. He, in particular, seemed to come in loaded for bear. And, I believe there were deliberate no calls.

I don't disagree at all but the more we argue, the fewer calls we'll get

He T'd up Mullin in the Depaul game. Clearly, there is no love lost between those two.

I wonder if an Earl Weaver- Ron Luciano situation will eventually develop. Things got so bad between those two back in the 70s, that the American League eventually let Luciano take his vacation time whenever he was scheduled to do an Orioles series.

Ah you're just pissed at Tony Jackson, not Mullin.
