Syracuse

Agree with Bob Ryan who on ESPN's Sports Reporters show said let's stop rewarding defenders for just standing there like a lamp post and make them make a play on the ball and that this play was started by the ACC. I think it started with Duke and Rat Face having his players flop around the court like fishes out of water and the master was Shane Battier. Since it is such a tough call it would be great to just eliminate it, years ago you didn't have players falling all over the court all game long. I know some will disagree because they will say it is old school but I would rather watch basketball being played not acting with players flopping all over the court.
+1

I thought the call was correct. Fair ran over the defender. Could you say the defensive player closed out on Fair while he was already driving? Maybe, but on their home court, game on the line, when their guy gets to the spot and gets run over, it's hard to say that was a block. I haven't read the whole thread, but I thought Vitale's input was ridiculous once again. Defending Boeheim's reaction on that was incredible. Jay Bilas was the voice of reason, saying Beoheim blew the game for his team was the right way for objective commentators to play it. Time for Vitale to go away. He has no credibility at all.

Boeheim quoted Lou Carnessecca in the press conference. When asked about the crowd at duke he said:

"Lou Carnesecca once told me that they can be as loud as they want, they can't score any points"

Loved the Louie quote. Lou is that kind of guy, quick with a great comment and a twinkle in the eye..

As for Home Court Officiating, I think it's a pretty forgone conclusion that fans can have an effect on some of the bang bang calls.. Especially late in close games.. All teams want calls to go there way. The travel call on Greene Saturday wasn't that blatant and could have been let go. I doubt he would have been called for traveling at MSG, IF THE GAME WAS IN OUR VENUE.

Also too, I thought Harrison didn't get a lot of the foul calls he usually does when he goes to the basket. Neither did Jordan.. Both of them were knocked on their asses more than a few times with no call.. Meanwhile, you can't breathe on ARCHIE or he gets the foul call way too many times..

Refs could pretty much call something on virtually every play but, it disrupts the flow of the game..There is still a lot of holding and grabbing jerseys going on and it is let go quite a bit.

Usually, it evens out for both teams. Sometimes not.

'Cuse got Duked. Much like Duke got 'Cused in the first game. It happens on their home courts all of the time.

Not ours though

Reggie Carter.

How about something from the last decade. Or even 2

Hey, Moose, some things just stick in your craw, and no matter how hard you try, you can't get rid of them ... especially when it was the last play of the game against your hated -- emphasis "hated" --arch-rival. (Besides, to geezers like me, it seems like it happened yesterday!)

Scoonie Penn of Ohio State fouling Erik Barckley on his drive to the basket with a final 4 spot on the line in the last possession. We lost.

I don't see how anyone can complain about the tech. Boeheim ran 40 feet onto the floor into the ref's face. Plus he's a dirtbag. I would have t'd him up no doubt. I thought he was set, personally.

That is the hardest call in sports. That ref has a family and probably kids and grand kids, and he is just trying to earn a living.

I agree, the 0 people who did complain about the tech should be ashamed of themselves.

syracuse barely beat maryland by 2 points....helps our RPI but that's about the only good thing with a syracuse win.....they are really struggling lately.....would be great to see them exit early from the ncaa's.....also, wagner beat fairleigh ridiculous so that also helps our RPI....

Should have been a non-call.

Score the basket, not an offensive or defensive foul.

I think the Duke player said as much in an article I read about the game.

This was a lesson for Cuse and all the other "northern" boys. This is the ACC and the northerners are not going to rule in the ACC. Duke and No Carolina will rule no matter how many of the old BE teams enter their conference. Boeheim may have learned his first lesson of joining the ACC- it was a course called -- Duke101
I cant wait to see how they mess up Cuse in the ACC tournament

Uh evidently you don’t pay attention to all games and just cherry pick a few instances.

Go back and look at the tape of the first game on 2/1 up at the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse shot FIFTEEN more free throws. Also the best player on the floor was called for his 5th foul late in the game on what most people believe was an iffy call (offensive foul on Parker).

Then a BLATANT missed call when Rodney Hood was fouled in OT on a dunk attempt.

Sound like Syracuse getting screwed…Hardly.

I agree the call probably was not a charge but after watching a replay it was close and hardly egregious. The no call on the Rodney Hood dunk on 2/1 was much worse.
Cuse and No Carolina will always be the toast of the ACC- No way Cuse or anyother former BE team ever gets that

Dee, I'm assuming you meant "Duke" and No Carolina. Yes?

So if Syracuse beats Virginia this weekend and wins the ACC regular season later they don’t get a trophy because only Duke and Carolina get trophies?

When Maryland won the ACC regular season title and National Championship in 2002 in didn’t count because only UNC and Duke’s wins get recognized.

Heck Virginia is in first place, they are not UNC or Duke. The standings don’t count?

I don’t know what that means nor do I care.

Guess who just beat cuse at the dome?

GEORGIA TECH!!!

Of all the top teams Ga Tech could beat, they have to beat the one we played. SMH.
What is happening to Syracuse lately...it's actually hurting us.

Start out 25-0 and now have lost 4 of 5. What co fuses me is they've lost to the ACC's worst at home. We can take them next year at the dome, I expect to. They aren't gonna be that good next year. Not really a good recruiting class coming in, and fair will be gone.

I expect them to be bad every year and I'm wrong every year. If they keep Ennis, they'll be legit. Cooney will be back, and they will return Christmas, Coleman, Gbinje...and watch Roberson turn into an NBA talent. It happens every year for Syracuse.

Syracuse had no business being good this year.

Interesting that Syracuse was undefeated when Coleman went down and have now lost four games.

Starting to see how we played so close with Syracuse. They are not very good.

Coleman? Coleman wasn't doing anything when he was playing. Besides, he's been injured since they played Villanova (December 28th). Syracuse has won lots of games since that date.

Syracuse can't score. It's catching up with them.

the other losses are not good but actually Gtech win is probably a net gain for our RPI since we beat them.

GEORGIA TECH!!!

So does this help or hurt our rpi?

We beat Ga Tech and beat the #7 team on their court, BUT...
Syracuse beat us at MSG, but lost to a bottom feeder in the ACC at home.

First of all, not having Grant available, plays a major part in their recent losses. Secondly, Ennis has cooled down offensively. Probably the pressure of a long college season is one reason. The teams average points is now in the fifties, not going to do it.

True. I don't watch much Syracuse because I can't stomach it. Coleman's last game was on January 7th. It just seems from the stats that Keita is killing them because he brings no offense is is a foul-machine. They've lost three out of four games by a total of 14 points and they play with no depth whatsoever--even for a Boeheim team. They played 7 guys last night and one was Keita who has 4 fouls, 1 pt, no blocks, assists, steals and just two rebounds in 16 minutes. That is terrible. I wonder if he didn't play against us and they didn't get his 4 pts and 4 boards if things would have been different in our five point game?

We can beat Syracuse now. I'd love to see them in the 2nd round if we can both make it that far!
