Syracuse molestation allegation

Also ascribed his mistake to loyalty and has made a commitment to raise sensitivity in regard to the isssue..

True Contrition and heartfelt penance or just looking for absolution to save his job?

Or - both?

Unanswerable questions but you can't help wondering about them.

The latter.
Look how long it took him to address it.

Jim Boeheim originally wanted to borrow a line from Mike Jarvi......"I felt like I was raped when I first heard the allegations from this kid, whom I know, to tell a thousand lies for money"

Boheim is still calling the Victims Accusers the guy was in charge of this mess & needs to be fired too.!

He never intervened & talked to Bernie's accusers WHY Not? Too busy on the golf course

Boeheim is just sooo arrogant, which is the problem. He should have kept his mouth shut to begin with instead of speaking in Fine's favor. In his position, it takes a lot of gall to call these victims liars and then take a week or two off before apologizing. Im not saying he deserves to be fired. If he didn't know about Fine's transgressions, then he's not culpable. He certainly looks bad though, and it might be a good time to have a good season and then retire before this whole thing gets uglier. Paterno tried that and wasn't allowed to. Boeheim should consider himself lucky to be able to do that after a great career.

Either way, the ACC is getting a Syracuse program that is horrible in football and their legend head bball coach I venture might not be round for long. I have my doubts whether a mike Hopkins-run Syracuse program will have anywhere near the draw as a Boeheim-coached program. I have serious doubts.

Agree totally and believe his apology was just a matter of CYA by JB. Hope you are right-JB needs to be gone.

The apology is CYA, and I really think Boeheim didn't want to believe the allegations. BUT, let's stop the f'ing witchhunts, and instead make sure that kids are better protected - kids who attend the sports camps that colleges hold (FOR PROFIT), kids who help out as ball boys, anyone. Joe Pa wasn';t fired because he deserved ot be fired, he was fired because it made the university look better - the same reasons the university never launched a full scale investigation in the first place.

Paterno turned the other way and ignored children being molested for football's-sake. He IMO 100% deserved to be fired.

I haven't fully formed my opinion, but once he ran it up the flagpole, and the AD decided how to handle it along with university administrators, Joe Pa would have been in a very bad position had he gone his own way and the allegations proved fruitless. I'm not saying he shouldn't have done that anyway, but he did run it up the chain of command immediately. Whenever there is a coeverup, whether Syracuse, or Penn State, or other formidable institutions were sexual abuse of children was covered up, the institution itself is even more culpable than the sick individuals that committed these crimes.

Watching Oklahoma / T. Boone Pickens University game and see that Boeheim and his wife are going to work on behalf of kids who were taken advantaged of by sexual predators.

Boeheim states that some may question the timing and the motives behind the action.

One can be cynical and wonder where were the Boeheim's two weeks ago or accept it on face value that they recognized the issue and are doing something positive about it.

Is jimmy trying to save his job and reputation or is he now a good Samaritan rushing to the aid to those that are in distress ???

I'll leave that to others to decide. It's above my pay grade.

Im going to go with shameless publicity stunt

JSJ, respect your posts immensely. I don't like Boeheim the coach, but would say that by all means he is at the end of a great career. Certainly he doesn't want to go out in flames like Paterno, undoing all he accomplished. I would say though, that whenever we second guess the charitable endeavors of others, we would be better served by looking at the good that charitable service may accomplish, and leave it to God to judge the motives.

On that note, please check out my next post in the general section. Thanks.

Perhaps we shuold be reticent and reluctant to spread more gossip…what's the point etc. Maybe I have tunnel vision tuning out such "news" but I'd rather focus on the great young talented players we have on this team - such a positive for me!

all the best

Source: Men to sue Syracuse, Boeheim

Two men who say they were sexually abused by a former assistant basketball coach at Syracuse University plan to sue the school and head basketball coach Jim Boeheim, a source told ESPN's "Outside the Lines" on Tuesday.

The source told OTL that a defamation suit is scheduled to be filed by Bobby Davis and Mike Lang naming Syracuse and Boeheim among the defendants. Davis and Lang accused Syracuse associate head basketball coach Bernie Fine of molesting them during the 1980s and '90s. They made the accusations in interviews with OTL in November.

When OTL's first story was broadcast and published, Boeheim called the accusers "liars" who were looking for money.

"You know how much money is going to be involved in civil suits?" Boeheim said. "I'd say about $50 million. That's what this is about. Money."

Attorney Gloria Allred has called a press conference for 2 p.m. in New York City. Davis previously maintained that he is not looking to sue Fine.

The two men plan to appear with Allred at the news conference.

A third man also has accused Fine. The U.S. attorney's office is investigating.

Among Allred's recent clients is a woman who accused presidential candidate Herman Cain of making unwelcome sexual advances.

Davis was a ball boy for the team in the 1980s. Lang is his stepbrother. Fine has since been fired.

Also Tuesday, the third man who accused Fine of molestation said he fully expects to go to prison for sexually abusing a boy in Maine.

Zachary Tomasell, of Lewiston, Maine, wrote on Facebook that he's looking to "find strength to get through this" as plea negotiations continue. He's already admitted that most of the accusations are true and says he takes responsibility for "the hell I put this teen through."

Syracuse's school newspaper, The Daily Orange, quoteed Tomaselli as saying he expects to spend two years behind bars.

Tomaselli is now under a gag order. His remarks to the newspaper and on Facebook were made before it went into effect.

A message was left Tuesday for Tomaselli's lawyer.

who cares about Boeheim and Syracuse. Did they mind coming to the Garden and running us off the Court the last several years+. Did they mind declaring they they were the NYC team> ? Do they mind running off to the ACC? The uglier it gets the better

Thanks for posting the News article MC'94.

Bondy's  "...Should he be fired? That seems extreme given the circumstances...." will be disagreed with by quite a few parties.
