Stith student assistant

Heres why I find this weird, even if it was for a scholarship for next year or if there is real concern with the program, why can't he just finish the season out? I believe it has to be for academics, because he is staying on with the team. If they were booting him for a schollie or there was a real problem, he wouldnt stay on as a student assistant. I find the timing strange.

I was thinking the same (this being about academics), Upstate. This is probably a way to keep him involved for the remainder of the season.

I wonder if people will continue to make excuses for the coaching staff and the subpar job theyv done this season

You mean the outstanding job they have done this season under adverse circumstances, some of which were beyond their control and others that resulted from them trying to make the most of the situation they inherited.

I have no complaints about the staff or team Would like more wins but they will come if not this yr then next

I knew the comedy woukd start sooner than later. Outstanding? we have six scholarship players at this point and one player signed for next season.

Talk to me in May and lets see what we got until then let thing ride out.

Signing isn't done for a few months. Stith is inconsequential except for the remainder of this season. We certainly need Lavin to lande a few guys in the spring though, and we certainly will.

so if he quits now he opens up a scholarship for next year but if he plays out the rest of the season the schollie isnt open? what are some of you guys talking about? that doesnt make any sense. and if its about academics does he think schools going to be easier without tutors following you around making sure your work is done and your grades are on track? wait till he's on his own in school. this whole thing doesnt make sense

Right, I know signing isn't done but am I the only one nervous?

And people/teams/coaches face tough challenges at various points of their lives/careers all the time...and guess what? some people/coaches/players etc. strive and overcome those challenges. I know Lavin's health situation made things even more difficult, but the reality is we had two kids ineligible, three (am i missing anyone?) players transfer, and another remove himself from the team. Not to mention two of our "recruits" for next year decommited. If you think that equals an "outstanding" job than you are just lost.

The Giants winning the superbowl this year was outstanding....not what our coaching staff has accomplished. Last year they hit a grand slam...this year? they've had a few singles and doubles and that's it.

It might be something personal, who knows. What ever it is hopefully this helps him succeed

This is beyond amazing, I don't know if I have ever witnessed at team take so many hits, that are non injury related. It maybe all circumstantial, but Polee, Lindsay, Stith, Sampson, Pelle and Lavin's slow recovery all in the same year!

I wonder what Lavin is thinking.

Inconsequential???? The money I paid for season tickets to me is not inconsequential at all. No I didnt expect a BE championship but this is a fing joke. Something stinks here no matter which way you slice it.

No one can sign until April 11. And the signing period runs until May 16. Complain on May 17. Then it might be worth it.

Im a little nervous too w 1 recruit and only 6 players, but I think Lavin will get the job done and we have a good core.

"Right now I feel that I need to do what is best for my family."

Sad that he could not just focus on school and basketball. Too many distractions.

There's another strange inconsistency in the Daily News article (yesterday-Tuesday) posted by Della.
The following excerpt and quote is taken from that article:

The situation hasn’t escaped the Johnnies. After the Syracuse loss, they started talking amongst themselves about doing what it takes to have a postseason, led by junior Malik Stith, the only returning player from last year’s NCAA Tournament team.

“He talks to us about playing harder and making the tournament, and how much fun it is to make the tournament,” Achiuwa said. “He says it’s a great feeling, having worked hard all season and the postseason becomes fun . . . you win (one) game you get to the next game. He says that it’s a great experience and that we should play hard to get to that stage.”

No, but you are one of only a few posters being a huge dick about it.

LJSA, gotta say that although I'm nervous too, this more than made me LOL ... it made me fall off my chair laughing (FOMCL?).

I don't know, but the way I read it is that Stith had to be severely disappointed by his lack of minutes. The writing was on the wall for him - there were the six othe rplayers getting major minutes, and then him getting spot minutes. He had a much more valuable role last season, and when Lindsay left, probably felt he should be part of the rotation. My thinking is that he sat with Lavin, and not getting a commitment for more minutes, they came up with a resolution that allows him to keep his scholarship for now, and earn credits towards his degree. I can't imagine that Stith is very dejected by what has happened on the court for him this season, only to get worse next year.

I don't disagree with the way he has been used, but also will say that he appears to be a solid citizen, and wish him well.

As to the comments about roster mess, I'd rather have 6 guys capable of contributing on a very very good team in the future, then a roster loaded up with mid major role players as we had in the past. Lavin knows the talent level he wants and rather than jam up the roster with sub-par players has shown good restraint in going after guys who will make us a force in the big east.

after the comments he made last season about second chance, i felt bad for him but he was just not getting it done on the court this year. hopefully he becomes a great coach.

The thing that I find confussing is the timing. Yes with Branch coming in next year his minutes will be greatly reduced from the 14 he averages this year. But why not just wait to the end of the season, there are only 8 plus the BE tournament. There is probobly some other reason that we will never know.

When Branch transferred, I posted Stith would leave the team. If my memory serves me right some disageed.

Im a little nervous too w 1 recruit and only 6 players, but I think Lavin will get the job done and we have a good core.

A good core if nobody transfers or leaves for the draft. I wouldnt bet on that not happening.
