I don't know, but the way I read it is that Stith had to be severely disappointed by his lack of minutes. The writing was on the wall for him - there were the six othe rplayers getting major minutes, and then him getting spot minutes. He had a much more valuable role last season, and when Lindsay left, probably felt he should be part of the rotation. My thinking is that he sat with Lavin, and not getting a commitment for more minutes, they came up with a resolution that allows him to keep his scholarship for now, and earn credits towards his degree. I can't imagine that Stith is very dejected by what has happened on the court for him this season, only to get worse next year.
I don't disagree with the way he has been used, but also will say that he appears to be a solid citizen, and wish him well.
As to the comments about roster mess, I'd rather have 6 guys capable of contributing on a very very good team in the future, then a roster loaded up with mid major role players as we had in the past. Lavin knows the talent level he wants and rather than jam up the roster with sub-par players has shown good restraint in going after guys who will make us a force in the big east.
