Steve Lavin Update

I've always felt that Lavin is a west coast type of personality. While he was outwardly friendly, I don't think he made a lot of friends at SJU, and didn't really connect with people in a genuine way. I'm not sure that his departure bothered anyone in the AD because I don't think he cultivated the type of relationships with staff that you might expect. Some people around here have said he wasn't around all that much, and they may be right.

In any event, wish him well. He's not a bad guy, but the west coast just suits him better.

From what i hear on campus.. Mullin Inc. are rubbing ALOT of people the wrong way... pssst.. this aint the NBA/KU gents... a handshake & a smile isnt much to ask for.. straight out snubbing ur fanbase/students/staff is pathetic imo... Dont get me wrong, i love the job these guys have been doing... hope they get the message.

Can you give some examples?

I've heard two examples personally... one from a university employee & the other a student... all I'll say is that coach Mullin himself was not the problem... it was the rest of the staff.... hopefully its just two isolated examples... once again, LOVE THE JOB they've been doing... peace!

Lavin was always nice and respectful. When you talked to him he made you feel like the only person in the room.

Met Mullin at Red White a few years ago, did not seem like the friendliest guy.

Think it may be more of a personality differance. Chris was never one for smalltalk and has actually always seemed to me to be a bit socially reserved. Lavin on the other hand is much more outgoing. I did post an example of slice being at season tix selection night and not bothering to.mingle with the fans waiting on line to pay for thier tix.

So did Slice basically spurn your request for an autograph or picture and now you're upset...? Let's move on...

Lavin was always nice and respectful. When you talked to him he made you feel like the only person in the room.

"Psychopaths [...] are unable to form emotional attachments or feel real empathy with others, although they often have disarming or even charming personalities. Psychopaths are very manipulative and can easily gain people’s trust. They learn to mimic emotions, despite their inability to actually feel them, and will appear normal to unsuspecting people. Psychopaths are often well educated and hold steady jobs. Some are so good at manipulation and mimicry that they have families and other long-term relationships without those around them ever suspecting their true nature."

Its amazing how some sh#t on him. Let it go dude. He cared deeply about the kids. What do you expect him to say?

A big factor in Lavin being let go is that he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way because he was a bullshit artist. And now people are supposedly complaining because Mullin is essentially not enough of one. Knowing St. John's, it's probably the same exact people.

I think the new coaching staff is very intense. My friends nephew was visiting the campus a couple of weeks ago and his parents and his nephew walked in on a practice. It was just drills going on and someone yelled get the heck out of here. They were really surprised as they are incredibly nice people who are considering the school. I think a friendlier reply would have been more appropriate. You build respect one student at a time.

Coming into the Somoma State exhibition I saw Lou with Ron Rutledge ahead of me. Any chance I have gotten over the last thirty years I make an attempt to briefly talk to Lou and ask him how he is. He doesn't know me but is always happy to engage me. In this case he was going into a private room but Ron turned to wave to me. You will never replace people like that.

Do you want Mr. Rodgers to coach the program?

I don't mind that Mullin isn't the schmoozer that Lavin was. Because that's all Lavin was.
Chris is a basketball player and lifer.

There's a very long list of coaches that are so intense they rub people the wrong way. And many of them are among the most successful in their sport.

All we needed was one exhibition loss for some to begin shredding our new coach. Overwhelmingly we've crapped on every former coach, and there was even a period on here where Carnesecca's tenure was crapped on by more than a few people. No wonder they love Pitino in Louisville - as long as it wasn't their daughter he accosted in the back room of the restaurant, he's a hero as long as he wins.

Here's a giant FYI. Some guys - Jay Wright, Phil Rizzuto, Looie, are natural schmoozers. Say hello to them, and they can speak for ten minutes to a total stranger. Our staff is here to do a job - resurrect our program. They don't have to be engaging to every student who now has a new found love for basketball (until of course we are 1-4 in the Big East and they go back to video games, if they even bother to show up at all)

We are really, really good at character assassination at the first sign of losing. I just wish more of us showed up at games to do it.

I saw Looie throw guys the hell out of the gym too. Nothing new and Looie is supposed to be nice.

Rex Ryan is a bullshitter too, alot of coaches are, Mike Francessa stated that Lavin was being re-upped until Mullin called for the job. So he couldn't have rubber that many people the wrong way.Pay attention.

Psychopaths do not end the manipulation until their target is no longer able to listen.

The power of Lavin: Probably talked to Salty Dog for a few minutes at a university function, made him feel important, and now Salty Dog has been his lap dog ever since.

Also, Francesa is hated at the university, and he barely talks basketball until March Madness, at which point he suddenly becomes an expert. Not sure anything he says about St. John's is accurate.

This is a much better Francessa video.

Also, I wish my wife and kids adored/worshipped me as much as salty does Lavin.

I know fatso takes a lot of shit, but it was Lavin's job with an extension until the last week of the season.
He at least still has one good connection.
