St. John's to Leave Nike?

Well, this item on Paul Lukas's uni-watch.com is interesting:

"A little birdie tells me that St. John’s may (a) switch from Nike to Under Armour, (b) bring back blue, (c) go back to “SJU” instead of “STJ,” and (d) swap “Johnny Thunderbird” for a cartoon caricature of Lou Carnesecca with an “LC” on the chest."

I'd love for B to come true.

Agreed. My two favorite uniforms all-time are the late 90s/early 2000s that Artest/Barkley's teams wore and the mid-80s classics. Both had navy trim I believe. Our current jerseys would be up there if the black trim was substituted for navy.

Those late 90's jerseys were just awesome.

I guess I'm the only one who found this all in jest after (A)

I take that back. As for D half is right I'd like to think the 2nd part is a joke.

So from what you've heard B and C aren't happening?
That's the most interesting part of the quote to me. A already happened, and I agree D is a joke. Although honestly it would be no worse than a thunderbird.

Also, I'm with Mase, a little blue would be cool.

All are legit I heard. Except for the 2nd part of D.

Interesting. I just realized I've seen a cartoon like that before. Last year I bought a 1973 SJU Media Guide off ebay, for my Dad for his birthday, because that's the year he graduated. Cost next to nothing, like $5.
But the front cover was a cartoon caricature of Louie. That was the season Lou returned after coaching the Nets, and the headline was like "Lou's Back!"
I'm actually pretty sure the figure had either an "LC" on his hat or his sweater.

I don't know if that was their inspiration but I'll take a picture of it the next time I visit my parents.

The team of consultants advised the school to change the team name to "St. John's Johnnies"

I'm not sure if your joking or not but
it worked for st bonavanture. It just seems weird to change your name. For a second time.

Johnnies would be the worst possible name. It's ok to call them the Johnnies as a nickname but not ast the official name. I might join Joe3 and start rooting for Nova...or maybe become a Gaels fan like Marco.

Btw, what is a Gael?

A study was conducted and recommendations were made. Will they accept them? That is still to be determined.

They spent millions of dollars transforming into the redstorm and into the new STJ logo... I highly doubt that they will be "rebranding" again.

and if the past is any indication, they will let the student body decide this matter through a poll or some sort of voting.

I like Johnnies much better than Red Storm.

Red Storm seemed like a rush job when we first made the switch.

I'd welcome the change.

I agree, Id welcome it too.
It's better than any alternative, including remaining the storm.

Also for hat it's worth I haven't heard coach Lavin use the phrase Red Storm at all in his three years here. He always refers to the team as the Johnnies and I don't think that's by accident.

I hope this is all just a joke. "Johnnies" would be the worst name possible but that's just my opinion.

I agree with you. NY Post headline: "Georgetown flushes Johnies"

Always have been partial to "RedRum." Maybe the University can design a cartoonish Jack Nicholson with sticking his head through a basketball hoop, instead of a door as he did in the "Shining." And we can still use "Here's Johnny!" It works so well.

If they want something more biblical, do with "Red Sea." Sure others will make fun of the name, (Dead Sea, Red Puddle, etc.) but a cartoonish Charlton Heston would look cool, imo.

Kranmars is one to talk. Much like his handle, if it were up to him we'd change our moniker every season! ;-)

Ha! It is true that I suffer from an acute case of handle commitment issues. But in my defense, my last two handles "mARbles" and "kranmARs" do share a the "ar" part of my original handle. :p
