St. John's Big 12 rumor/Pitino & Prime

So they don't actually care about St John's, they just want access to the NYC market lol
I’m sure B1G wasn’t in love with a doormat like Rutgers…and, look what it did for them - along with Pikiel

Story on phone sports news reporting that, because of the ongoing TV negotiations, the Pac !2 seem to be looking seriously at San Diego St. and SMU to replace USC and UCLA. I thought UNLV made more sense than SMU. The conference already plays its football championship game and their post-season basketball tourney in Las Vegas.

B12 seems a bit odd. Not a geographic nor cultural fit. Not saying it ought to be turned down based on those things, just that it's not ideal.

Now if these B12 rumors spur ACC or B10 to move on St. John's, Gtown, Nova & Uconn, then I like it much better.

Bring back Johnny football! This way if the basketball team is having down year, we won't care if St. John's is in the Rose Bowl

I agree that they shouldn't blow up the Big East for a Big 12 invite. ACC? Maybe, that'd be a much better fit but will be unstable once the big schools leave. Big Ten? Yes, that'd be extremely stable but also extremely unlikely.

The curveball here would be if UConn and/or Nova join, and they attempt to bring the MSG tournament with them. At that point St. John's really wouldn't have an option, and frankly I'd just hope we'd be included in the invite because without them we'd basically become the AAC/A10+.

The big question here is if this rumor does come to fruition and we end up in one of these Power leagues would the University then be forced to build a new arena? I would think that financing such a project would be much easier based upon the huge increase in TV revenue they would receive! Either that or we would play most of our games at MSG which is the likely option!

On his podcast today Matt Norlander said gonzaga is definitely being looked at by the BIG12 and that they would most likely add them plus some basketball specific schools. He did say that the team he heard mentioned was west of the Mississippi so idk.

Creighton?

Would we get a piece of the football pie, or would they have a unequal distribution formula?

I could probably get on board with a full merger and we add a team.

St. John's / Georgetown / Villanova / Seton Hall / Providence / UConn
Creighton / DePaul / Xavier / Butler / Marquette / ?
Houston / TCU / Texas Tech / Baylor / OSU / BYU
Cincy / WVa. / UCF / KU / KSU / ISU

Play everyone in your division 2x and the old conference mates 1x. Play three Big 12 teams from each of those divisions, then the other six the following year. 22 conference games. Play eight games against local sisters of the poor. Boom done. And they didn't even have to pay me a $20 million consulting fee.

Seems way more likely that they would go for Arizona and the rest of the football teams left behind when the Pac-12 dies.

The idea that the B12 would have any interest in SJU seems completely insane to me. So, it must be true.
Right now SJ would be lucky to be competitive in the MAAC. Programs in the NY area with better records this year: Rutgers, Seton Hall, Hofstra, Fordham and Iona.
We bring ZERO to the table to the BIG because we are SMALL in so many ways.
