They are Rutgerizing us like the Big Ten did with them...although their success has probably been a pleasant surprise. So they don't actually care about St John's, they just want access to the NYC market lol

You mean like we are now and have been basically for the better part of the last 25 years?if they actually make a move. we will be bottom feeders of the conference without a good team
You mean it is pure folly to believe that the Big 12, the best basketball conference in the country wants to add a perennial bottom four BE program?A little early for April Fool's Day.
I'd believe St John's to the MAAC or Colonial before I believe this. Sure, every league needs a bottom feeder...but St John's is worse than that. Can you agree the program is lower than lobster shit? (sorry mjmaherjr) Face it. We're being laughed at by Seton Hall fans...and you want a home and home against Kansas every year? You mean it is pure folly to believe that the Big 12, the best basketball conference in the country wants to add a perennial bottom four BE program?
Oh wait, there is the New York angle. Cannot forget about the extra conference exposure. Even though the Big 12 can simply schedule games at the Garden and draw bigger crowds than SJU.
Right now SJU hoops couldn’t get exposure if the entire university went streaking along 7th avenue between 31-33 streets.

Nah, I highly doubt this would just be about playing St. John's there. It'd be about playing the conference tournament at MSG. As we saw a few years ago, neither the Big Ten nor ACC were able to take MSG from the Big East, and that was before UConn joined. St. John's and other local programs are vital for attendance, especially for those earlier rounds (lol... which we know St. John's excels at).
The Big 12 as we know are trying to create a nationwide conference, so playing at MSG makes sense. There's 0% chance they could take over MSG now, but with St. John's, UConn, Villanova, WVU... in addition to national brands Kansas, Baylor, Gonzaga, Texas Tech? That would probably be appealing to MSG.
MSG has no loyalty to St. John’s. If you are willing to pay the bill to turn the lights on two Middle School teams from Cali could schedule games there.
St. John’s does not move the needle and it wouldn’t matter what conference they were in.That has nothing to do with what I posted. Again, this is about the conference tournament and selling out, which is hugely beneficial to MSG for a number of reasons. MSG wants local teams for conference tournaments, which is why they ultimately went with the Big East over the ACC and Big Ten 5ish years ago. The ACC even went to Barclays for a few years and attendance was terrible during the early rounds. The Big Ten tournament at MSG a week early didn't set the world on fire, either. That's why MSG needs local Big East teams, in particular St. John's, Villanova, and UConn, to guarantee there will be sellouts. It's one thing if a team wants to pay the bills for one game, it's another to guarantee there will be seats in butts, more expensive tickets, commission sales, atmosphere, etc. for an entire tournament.
Point being, there's no chance the B12 could take the MSG conference tournament from the BE without poaching multiple BE teams. If the ACC or B1G couldn't do it, then the B12 certainly couldn't either.

Anyway, I’m done commenting on this thread as I don’t believe it has any merit.
I know this guy is talking about making the Conference appeal exceed that if School Appeal . But , at some point , especially on this League if it happens , can you see a kid from California t thinking “ I really want to go play at St John’s in front of 5000 fans in a 1955 Arena .” Even if MSG were available for all our home games , it’s hard for me to believe 19,000 fans would show up on a Tuesday night to see us play Kansas . And , even rabid Jayhawks fans would be doubtful to come to NY to see1 game . Of course , the Norm loyalists might show . All 10 of them .
So they don't actually care about St John's, they just want access to the NYC market lol
Yep, Rutgers won the conference lottery due to their location. The Big Ten certainly didn't add them for their performance. Now they're a legit ranked basketball school selling out MSG. I'm not saying St. John's should accept a potential Big 12 invite, but they need to retain/build upon their MSG presence and not take BE membership for granted. Realignment is not over, and the last thing St. John's would want is to be left behind while Nova/UConn/Georgetown are invited to bigger conferences. At that point our program really may just die.I assumed this was obvious from the start. STJ brings nothing else to the table.
The issue with the ACC schools is the ACC buyout. Several schools like Florida St and Clemson have tried leaving (for SEC / B1G) but can't yet. Even more reason why St. John's may need to take advantage of an offer rather than wait 5-10 years for it to be given to Syracuse. If you look at their conference going forward, it makes sense that they'd look to add four schools east of Iowa St. and have two eight-team conferences. Do we fit in there? Weirder things have happened with conference realignment. Does it make for sense for them to look at choices among Syracuse, Pitt, BC, Louisville, and UConn? Probably. But I guess we won't ever truly be dead dead if NYC is consider a plum location for a conference to have a presence.
