St. John's Big 12 rumor/Pitino & Prime

Can never trust anything 100% in realignment, but for now it does appear UConn will remain in the Big East. UConn was played in an embarrassing national way. Looking forward to the regular season with St. John's selling out MSG and proving we're NY's team.

I agree,Reden, it's always so much fun when fans are obnoxious and the final buzzer goes off and you can turn around and give them the "you're a dumb #*CK, LOOK! If it is a Butler or DePaul fan who has been nice the whole game, you give them the "there's always next time LOOK", the first LOOK is lots more fun. Stay in the BE and let us kick you around like the Perno and early Calhoun years.
We’ve been avoiding eye contact after games for 20 years.

I believe the 2023 Big 12 threat closed with the PAC 12 additions.

A PAC 12-MWC merger is the biggest threat to us now. They will 100% seek Gonzaga, SMU, and Memphis. They will also very likely at least kick the tires on Uconn.

The Big 12 and whatever comes of the PAC 12-MWC conference will be looking to destabilize the Big East and we need to be fully aware of that. However, have no faith in our conference leadership and I fully expect them to sit on their hands.

No way UConn would take that. That league would pay pennies compared to what the B12 would've offered, wouldn't be a Power league, and travel would be significantly worse for UConn than it was in the AAC. That's a worse situation than the AAC was tbh, and UConn left when the AAC still had Cincy, Houston, and UCF.

I agree that conference would be a threat to taking Gonzaga. Big East would be a better/more lucrative league, but Gonzaga may still choose that league due to location. At least the Big East now has a chance (as opposed to Gonzaga being offered by the Big 12).

IMO things have gone really well so far this cycle for the Big East. Hope we can take advantage by adding Gonzaga and/or solidifying our next TV contract soon.

my gut tells me UCONN will sniff the ACC.

Once the likes of UNC, Miami, FSU, VT, VA, leave, there'll be pretty big voids to fill. Uconn, would make the most sense there.

I wish UConn luck in the PAC-NWC. Hopefully they go and build their sleeping giant of a football program and challenge Alabama and Georgia for national titles soon.

Big East is sending its best envoy out to Gonzaga.

UConn has no one to blame but themselves for being ppayed. There were plan C at best but kept campaigning for a shot.

They had no choice. If they don’t get their terrible football program into a decent conference it won’t survive. Football is the best chance to remain as major basketball program as well.

They’ll continue to hound the Big 12 and ACC.

I think we should sweeten the pot for them at the next media deal by giving them an extra 20% of whatever units they earn in the tournament and maybe an extra 5% of the media deal in exchange for a prohibitive buyout. The value that they add to the conference surely would eclipse that amount and we wouldn’t have to worry about realignment ever year.

Hey, don't be so smug about a struggling Northeast football program.

Just look what happened to Rutgers when it entered the Big10. They're just as good as Northwestern and Indiana!
Please don't insult Indiana and Northwestern, they have 2 to 3 times more victories than RU in big 10 and more bowls than RU over the

But it still wouldn’t solve their football program. I agree they cannot survive as an independent.

I don’t think a PAC-MWC merger is a threat. Even with SDSU, Gonzaga, St Mary’s, Memphis, they’re still only the 5th best b-ball conf. Besides it appears now that a PAC-ACC merger is more likely.

Also….and this may sound cynical, disloyal and ruthless, but should another conf, say B12 or B10, feel sufficiently threatened by the prowess of the BE and decided to destroy it, it could only be done by taking Stj, Gtown and Nova. Taking UConn alone would leave us as still a perennial top conf.
In this scenario, St Johns in NYC, with MSG as home court would be just fine and will always reside in a major conf. Posters here continually knock UConn for it but we too would put our school interest above the collective conf should the opportunity arise.

Schools like Hall, Marq, Prov rely on the continued existence of the BE.

I don't see any way we (Big East) don't add. Right now, it's eat or be eaten. I also wouldn't place all our eggs in the Gonzaga basket. Personally....I like VCU, Saint Louis, and Wichita State.

Assuming Gonzaga is not available then IMO the Big East should stand pat and not add any A10 type teams until it sees how the ACC shakes out.

I’m against any State Schools like VCU and Wichita State . It’s not a good mix with Private Schools that don’t have Tax Payer$$$.

Those are good programs, but jumping at schools isn’t the best solution. The BE should take a deep breath and take stock to see what makes sense.

VCU, St. Louis, and Wichita State will jump at the chance to join the BE. The BE should not try to our jump them.
