St. John’s (2020-21)

Julians improvement during the season reminded me of the improvement bu another Loughlin player. We saw Mark Jackson improve every time he played . I remember meeting coach Pat Quigley and commenting about Marks continued improvement

This was my concern, which is why if we lose a kid late I wanted to add a grad big man.

Roberts still needs a lot of work. But I think he's too good to be buried as a fifth big man, which might not sit well with him. Might be better to let him get stronger and better for a year and wait out Toro so he can get minutes as an upperclassman. Plus would be one less body lost after 2021-22.
Roberts will be ready to go, but he’s not a center. He needs to be a PF type to thrive, but with that he needs to develop some offense. I don’t think he will be hampered by shoulder. He should be moving along well if all and the well with surgery which was a while ago already. Not worried about his shoulder, more his development. He’s got a lot of upside.

Have no interest here but there are quite a few that do. I was surprised I saw this out of a Boston/Providence blog on Saturday and nobody had it here. Already have people saying the Redmen are going to win the conference and others thinking middle of the pack. While others have us toward the bottom again. Anyway he has Villanova and Creighton as #1's. Xavier and UConn as #9's. Providence is the only other team in the bracket as a #11.

I love it. They’ll soon learn our depth and added talent is not to be trifled with!

Too late. Knight queued up the pre-game, game time, and post-game threads the day Slick Rick got hired.

Aside from Big East-Big 12 challenge when it would face Texas Tech, it's likely rest of St. John's schedule will feature tri-state opponents, per AD Mike Cragg. Still on docket for Preseason NIT but quarantine guidelines could preclude #sjubb from taking part since may be in Fla

Preference is to face teams within driving distance where hotels or flights are not needed. The hope is to play 7 non-conference games, Mike Cragg told me. #sjubb

I’d enjoy a Hofstra matchup

I've seen Hofstra and Iona mentioned, what are the other schools you think are in the mix?

Hofstra would probably be the "sexiest" matchup possible if you're looking strictly at quality opponents within driving distance that would not require either a hotel stay or a flight. I also wouldn't mind seeing a game against Iona. If we follow those guidelines, our non-conference slate would be very weak and could hurt our NCAA chances if we are a bubble team. Other schools may be willing to fly to play tougher non-league games or may have more formidable opponents within driving range.

Regardless, I'm all for safety first and would be thrilled just to see college basketball being played this season.

Would love a neutral site game against Syracuse at the Garden or maybe the Times Union center in Albany.

Maybe Iona, Hofstra,St. Peters, Fairfield, Rutgers, Temple, St. Joe's and/or Penn?

A decent slate of locals within driving distance. Rutgers should be in the preseason Top 25 and Temple and Hofstra should be competitive. Iona would be a fun matchup for obvious reasons.

I wonder if schools like Syracuse, St Bonaventure, Siena, Niagara or Albany would come down here to play. Or perhaps other schools in Philly's Big 5.

Good names. Maybe if Albany were a midway-station they might. And I'll add La Salle to the mix.

If we are just looking for games (without quality concern) we are probably in the best area in the country in terms of density. I asked Cragg in one of his Twitter QandAs about a local non-conf tourney- almost what the Holiday festival used to be (he said he liked it, always the nice guy, but we had our schedule pretty much set)... We would have no problem getting 16 teams from the area to play over the course of two weekends.

Assuming that fans arent allowed at any of these events, there is no shortage of places that have multiple courts (without stands) to get this done. we driving 2-3 hours, should be no issue getting games on the sched

Id add Manhattan to that list.
. I would too. The Jaspers have been down of late and the local Atmosphere is always a plus . I would also include Fordham , not because they have been good but , again , for that Local Presence . Kind of bring backs days gone by .

On the flip side they'd likely be 6-1 or 7-0 in non conference. And also to clarify NCAA has indicated max games are 27 this season so 7 is the max non conference a BE team can play. Don't think they are taking "exempt" tournament exceptions this year either.
