St. John’s (2020-21)
Watching Champ made me think that we have not seen anyone as smooth in STJ red since the late Malik Sealy.
I was thinking the same thing last night. Obviously he's not as explosive as Malik, but he's got that smooth game. Let's hope he builds on the foundation he's got.

What happened to our game with Sacred Heart on Sunday?
Did that get canceled?

The Nuri Lindsey Invitational
Some resemblance, mostly physically so far; have to see a little more of his game. BTW, Moore has had a hard time holding onto the ball at times too.

People forget how good a plyer Zen was (tho he could not live up to the hype coming out of HS). He nearly averaged a double double over 4 years here.
Somewhat random, but anyone else see a little of Zendon Hamilton’s game in Isaih Moore? I actually think that Moore appears to have more and a higher level of skills, as Zendon always had a hard time holding the ball and putting it in the basket. Still, as Zendon got a taste of NBA life (at least for a little bit), It’s not at all meant as a negative comparison. Maybe I’m just seeing a very long and lanky kid with a relatively strong motor — which, other than Tariq, we haven’t seen in a while.,

I think both Z and another lefty, David Russell, were very good players for us who everyone expected would develop in to great players by the time their college careers were over. In Z's case, much like Felipe, those expeditions were set before he even stepped foot on campus. All 3 were not only very good players, but excellent representatives of the school as well. But all 3 left us wanting just a little bit more.

I love what I’m seeing from our team depth wise. My only wish right now is Roberts firmly establishes himself in front of Toro in the rotation. I think he’s a better player

Zendon was unorthodox, but a lot stronger and knew how to use his physicality. Moore needs to work on body control and spacial awareness. Reminds of the Knicks version of Charles Smith.

Champs was unbelievable last night and while I will say he has a little Tim Duncan in him, comparing him to Sealy is blasphemy to me at this point.

So just to clear things up, comparing him to a top 25 basketball player of all time is fine, but Malik Sealy is where we are drawing the line?

;)

Agreed. Z was wirey strong. Like I said, I would be thrilled if Moore gave us a fraction of Z's production. Speaking of Charles Smith, me going up against him for a rebound lol

Not photoshopped.

Definitely a little tongue in cheek, but as college players, Sealy mostly a small forward and Duncan mostly a power forward where not that far off in effectiveness. Duncan was better but not substantially. Sealy was a treasure for St. John’s fans. Duncan is one of my all time favorite players so a huge compliment for me to say that.
Random thought - Sometimes little things spawn opportunity.

Julian is under recruited and opts for prep school to improve his game and attract more offers. SJU has a roster spot and Van suggests CMA take a look at him. Bingo!

Posh has started on every team he has played on since buddy ball. He gets injured in his third year of high school and gets less recruiting attention. Van sees he has recovered, gotten into great shape and engages CMA to put the press on him early,

Well arguably our two best players became available to a struggling, rebuilding program. Sometimes a little luck and right circumstances can turn things for the better. In these two instances the stars lined up, staff pounced & these pieces seem the building blocks we needed to truly compete. I was thinking same thing today...how fortunate we were...but this is how it starts...i am sure that wright had some luck along the way

If Champagnie is consistently close to what he was last night he becomes a game changer. Very confident approach and body language even after he missed his first couple of shots. The ball going in when open is one thing but he took the ball to the hole smoothly a couple of times and made a nice baseline jumper off the dribble. One game is one game, good or bad, but he certainly looked like a much improved player off a good freshman year.
+1000 big difference was him taking ball to hoop

I feel the same way about both players.

These December games are usually pretty meaningless in the long run but even more so now given the difficult practice and scheduling conditions. Seem like a bunch of pickup games.
