SJU press release

Between Nov. 25 and the end of the calendar year, the Red Storm is scheduled to play six non-conference games and four BIG EAST contests. The Johnnies could potentially play one more non-league opponent during that stretch. In light of that possible addition and larger world events, the Red Storm’s schedule is subject to change. The remainder of the BIG EAST schedule, which will feature 20 games in total against league opponents, will be released at a later date.

A final decision on fan attendance for home games has not yet been reached. Please stay tuned to RedStormSports.com and the department’s social media channels for the latest information on attendance and ticketing.

Game times and television assignments will be released at a later date.

Manhattan opted out of the St. John's MTE yesterday, per source. #sjubb has a team in mind to fill Jaspers spot, but not quite done yet. Will only be three teams.

Was told yesterday St. John's likely to play most, if not all, games at Carnesecca Arena this year. Especially through the new year. #sjubb

Lapchick Tournament Returns:

“With the renewed nationwide focus on racial equality, we couldn’t think of a better time to recognize the legacy of Coach Lapchick,” said Athletic Director Mike Cragg. “In addition to being one of the most successful head coaches in our program’s storied history, Coach Lapchick’s principled stands against racial discrimination still carry weight a half-century after his death. We are honored renew this long-time St. John’s tradition.”

St. John’s hosted The Lapchick Tournament for 21 consecutive seasons between 1975 and 1995, going 41-1 during that stretch with 20 tournament titles.

The Johnnies will take on La Salle, an historic Philadelphia Big 5 power, for just the seventh time and the first since the semifinals of the 1964 Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden.

2-2 would more than fine with me
Pretty brutal start to the league season IMO

This is the season we can finally show pundits and coaches that CMA is different. Under Lavin and Mullin we always had very lofty expectations and embarrassed ourselves most of the time. A solid year 1 start and hopefully a NCAA bubble year (18+ wins overall) at the minimum in year 2. That would certainly stop us from being predicted near basement each year.

Agree with your post Mike, with one caveat. If we only play 6 out of conference games (26 in total), 17 wins would mean at least 11-9 in conference, would almost certainly have us dancing and would be an excellent year, imho.

If we're as good as everyone thinks on this board then I'd say the only toss-up should be the TT game.

Would love for them to use that game as a showcase , to TT and show us sju fans that this will be a heck of a season.
Dominate TT from the first minute aka Nolan style.
Sju 73 TT 56.

7-0 heading into conf play.

We had good starting 5 play but our bench always killed us, when was the last time we were this deep, early 90s?[/quote]

Home vs. Creighton and g-town, and Yukon, butler on the road.
Should beat g-town, and I want to beat Yukon in the worst way. I'm good with 2-2, but butler is only one spot ahead of us.. 3-1 would say something.

Unless there are fans in the stands, how much does home court matter?

We'll be the best defensive team in the league, but there's still so many unknowns about our offense. We'll scrap and claw every game, but unless we can find some outside scoring and a go-to guy, we'll likely finish right around were we are predicted IMO.

Probably more comfortable shooting on your home court, if there's any advantage with no fans.

I believe Cole and Champagnie (leaning more so to Cole as he'll be able to create his own shot) will be the "go-to-players," and it'll likely greatly benefit 'em both with true point guards in Alexander and McGriff. I just have this feeling Posh is gonna be tough to deal with as the season progresses.

IMO, they should allow 35%-50% capacity.

What has UConn shown that has people thinking they are going to win immediately in the Big East? Top to bottom they always had the most talent in the American, except last year with Memphis. Hurley has no excuses he had a roster full of 4 star recruits every year he’s been there. I’m not buying it this year they have a lot to prove imo. Big East is pretty stacked this year top to bottom, going to be a dog fight every game. Our guys already know what it’s like, these UConn cats haven’t been through that yet. Even Hurley hasn’t although the American does have some really good coaches.

Hope you're right, and that could mean a middle of the pack finish, but Posh, Mcgriff and Cole have yet to step foot on the court at this level. Of the 3, Cole is the only one with a rep as an outside scoring threat. Champ would need to take a decent step forward to become a go-to guy. The 9th place prediction is likely based on a lot of these unknowns. Like I said, hope you're right and we prove them wrong.
