St. John’s (2020-21)

If as Big Red posted the two new players , Toro and Moore show Anderson enough to move up the player food chain ahead of Roberts and Caraher this could indicate that SJU is finally going to move up in the BIg East and possibly avoid the Wed game in the Big. East tournament which this year will consist of three games.
A second unit of Roberts , Moore , Earlington , McGriff and Cole will be perhaps the strongest in the Big East and one of the best SJU has ever had.

The man, the myth, the duke of earlington. I see a team mvp and all big east team in this kid's future. He will be a force to be reckoned with.

I see sixth man awards in his future, because I think Champagnie keeps him from starting.

That said, the apparent length and athleticism for his size are intriguing. And if he the skillset to match that, he might be a very effective player.
The word I get is slim and strong. Tries to dunk everything. We will be a different team once he gets acclimated.
He doesn’t look as skinny as his juco films which is good. He’s talented it seems and hrs been a long time since we had a guy that continuously flushes it home but can also shoot out to distance. Looking forward to him and honestly I’ve never seen lanky bigs wear down in college ball. In cma’s style we have the depth not to have to worry. His height will come in handy coupled with Toro and Roberts as we will have enough size to put out there not to be dwarfed.
Yes to all of that. He’s long, runs like a deer at 6-10, 6-11, tries to dunk everything, and can step out and knock down the j. We had no big last year with this skill set. The way Toro passes the ball has been a real revelation as well.
I’m legit pumped up for this team to hit the floor. By the end of the season, they will really be clicking on all cylinders. These guys are gonna play to the bitter end. I don’t know how many teams will be able to withstand. This team will be special guys. Listen to me.
Really wish I could have your enthusiasm, but I learned when it comes to sju, don't or you'll be disappointed once again.
I want to believe that this year is the year that the turning around begins. Some are just on the side of caution.
I hope we shine this year. Wear down all the top b.e basketball schools, and make them want the game to be over.
Just One request guys: sweep Yukon and welcome them back to the b.e.
Based on history, you have legit reasons to “wait and see”. The difference maker for me is that prior to CMA we have tended to be a finesse team with limited commitment to defense. Not the case here, we wont be bullied and we will attack defensively and offensively., That approach raises the floor - at minimum. Frankly, I think once CMA establishes a winning team - his recruiting successes will rise and he may have his most successful years at SJ.

Champagnie should be our small forward while I see Earlington as our strong forward.

My starting 5:
Posh pg, Dunn sg, champ sf, earl pf (want to see him starting with that energy that he provides), and Toro at center.

Correct. Our best lineup will be champy at the 3 and the duke at the 4.

I think our best 5 is:
Posh
Williams Jr
Cole
Champangnie
Earlington

I couldn't care less who starts, but that's my bet for who is closing out games for us mid-season.

I see our talented depth as being a huge difference maker this year coupled with coaching. Even last year when we took a bit of a slide in the Big East at first I think it was more growing pains with tough league play and we struggled to move past Heron and his injury. We played some very talented teams like Zona etc and were never really overmatched by many if any. This year we are twice as deep with quality depth. We add more inside play, a ton more PG ability and overall increased our capability to play fast and hard like CMA wants. Coaching does matter and while we may be missing one or two of those absolute stud scorers we’d love to have, we certainly do have a “system” team where it all starts on defense. Some rosters like UConn, etc have more talent on paper but I can’t see us being overmatched considering our depth and pace of play. The team that will give us a tough time is one like Butler that is able to dial our tempo down and control that aspect. Most teams don’t play that way and fall into our hands.

Hearing Big East will release December league schedule tomorrow before its virtual media day. #bigeasthoops

Reason Big East only releasing December schedule is because so much still in play for January and February.

Expect 4 BE games in December apparently

College basketball may just emerge as a key vehicle to help downtown Providence and the State of Rhode Island awaken from its coronavirus slumber.

The Dunkin’ Donuts Center and the Rhode Island Convention Center are among a handful of venues holding discussions to host a bubble for Big East Conference basketball games, KevinMcSports has learned. Talks are in the preliminary stages and heavily clouded by the Covid-19 virus but scheduling plans for the conference, and all of college basketball, are in a frantic period right now.

Even with the season set to tip off in less than a month, the Big East has yet to unveil its 20-game schedules for men’s and women’s basketball. The conference office and 11 athletic directors are weighing a series of options, with the first being schools hosting games on their campuses or downtown arenas. Dates for some of those games, scheduled in December, could be released as early as Wednesday in advance of the Big East’s virtual Media Day.

One source told KevinMcSports that the Big East “will try” to have schools host single games in December but then look to pivot towards a bubble scenario in the first two weeks of January when most colleges are on semester break.

Multiple sources said the Big East is exploring sending all 11 of its men’s teams to the same site; splitting the schools into East and West bubbles; and is even looking at sending all 11 men’s and women’s teams to the same site.

If we're as good as everyone thinks on this board then I'd say the only toss-up should be the TT game.

Would love for them to use that game as a showcase , to TT and show us sju fans that this will be a heck of a season.
Dominate TT from the first minute aka Nolan style.
Sju 73 TT 56.

7-0 heading into conf play.

We had good starting 5 play but our bench always killed us, when was the last time we were this deep, early 90s?

I do think all are winnable, but definitely not a lock.

On paper we are deep, albeit without any studs. The flip side is Anderson has stated his teams can / do start out season a bit rough in his style and gel over time. Only 5 of the 11 players have played together in real game at same time (not counting redshirt McGriff, and Alexander/Wusu in HS).

Will be fun to watch though and even if they lose, not expecting any blowouts.

Big East schedule is out. St. John's opens with .... UConn on road. #sjubb
