Sonoma State

Big sigh of relief on the "Blue Storm" NorCal version of political correctness/mascot controversy...

and note that I was not kidding about Frisbee.
:ninja:

Let me introduce you to Sonoma State

Speaking of politically incorrect, note that the nicknmame for the Sonoma State team up until 2002 was the Cossacks.

If anyone wants to learn more about the Red Cossacks read Isaak Babel's Red Cavalry.

Welcome Sonoma. Not to sound brash, but I would be shocked if SSU was anywhere in the game by the middle of the 2nd half. I would have felt that way even 5 years ago, but now we have 6 ESPN100 players and we are as talented as we have been probably since our heyday in the mid 80's. I just hope no injuries occur on either side and it's a great learning opportunity for both teams. Good luck with your season!

We get it..

Is it that time of the month? No reason for tude.

Was the mention of how many Top 100 players really necessary? And comparison to the 80s teams?

It's an exhibition for goodness sakes.

Yes it's 100% necessary because not only are we D1 which should rout a team like that alone (even MAAC teams should), but we have some of the top players in D1. Yes it's an exhibition, but we should still easily win. You get it?

You are correct, although more talented teams have been taken to the limit or even beaten in these types of exhibitions. The teams aren't always ready, are still trying out different lineups and players and sometimes aren't properly motivated given that it's only an exhibition. Of course if that happens tonight we'll have to watch out for bridge jumpers.

Yes it might just be a test-out game, but remember just like preseason NFL, players are fighting for playing time and only have a short time to show what they can do. This means people like Jakarr, Obekpa, Sanchez, Bourgault, Jones, etc. will have a real reason to play hard.

Yes but new playes playing hard is not the same and usually not as effective as experienced players playing smart. Kind of like the difference between your posts and mine. ; )

O. Sanchez, M. Bourgault will not participate tonight as both await separate eligibility rulings from NCAA regarding classification. #stjbb

Per STJ twitter account both are awaiting "seperate eligibility rulings from the NCAA regarding classification"

I've long stopped wondering how issues proceed with the NCAA. Dissapointing to say the least

“@Kieran_Lynch: Q's have always been whether Sanchez had 1 or 2 years remaining and Bourgault was thought to be a soph.”

The NCAA once again drags their feet and inapproriately places a team in a precarious situation.

Per Zags....

NEW YORK — Two members of St. John’s heralded recruiting class won’t play in tonight’s preseason exhibition while they await “separate eligibility rulings from the NCAA regarding classification,” according to St. John’s.

Orlando Sanchez, a 6-foot-9 forward, and Marc Antoine-Bourgault, a junior swingman, are both out for the Sonoma State game. Both players attended Monroe (N.Y.) College.

It remains unclear when Sanchez and Bourgault will be cleared to play, and we may learn more from head coach Steve Lavin after the game.

We never catch a break, do we? Need to get Sanchez and Bourgault cleared. Two important pieces this season.

Lately, it's been bad breaks. I agree, in reference to getting those two back on the court. Two integral pieces for us going forward. Gotta have 'em.

Sampson's range has really improved since I saw him last year.
For only 6-6, Jones will really get a lot of time inside this year.
He's got some Lamont Middleton in his game.
