We are all pissed, but he deserves an extenstion. Two 20-win seasons...cancer...replacing his 1st assistant....losing a top 15 pick unexpectedly after a year....no senior yet...huge turnover he had to replace year 2.

Give him a two year extension and layout the expectations.

I don't hate Lavin but know he is a poor coach. Afterall, how many years does it take to develop an offense and a defense. After UCLA didn't he learn anything during his analyst tenure?

He was considered one of the "better" analysts too. That sure tells us all something!

It's two different skill sets, and he has proven it over 7 years. We on this board declare people losers and castigate them over and over. I hope you are as successful in your career as Lavin has been in broadcasting. In coaching not so much.

The real question is: why was he an analyst for 7 years? If he was a real D1 coach, someone would have picked him off much sooner. Even Bruce Pearl was hired after only 3 years and that was after a major scandal.

Dick Vermeil was an analyst for 15 years before he decided to coach again. Besides, Lavin could've had the NC State job prior to Sidney Lowe accepting it in 2006.

Some of y'all continue to not disappoint.

Dick Vermeil was like 60 years old when he returned to coaching. Lavin was in the prime of his working career, you can't compare the two. As for NC state, who knows what really went on behind the scenes?

You're right...who knows..so don't assume he wasn't seriously considered for other coaching positions based on fact that you don't like him or based on the job he has done at SJU...he had a body of work that, while not perfect, had some impressive credits on it and justified him getting a look from folks.

If you want him out as coach of SJU, that's your prerogative and you're entitled to it...but if you're going to denigrate everything he has ever done just to make your point, that's just weak...ESPN thought enough to hire him and keep him...so he had some value to them
