I'm a positive person...but to read "stellar" is a bungee like stretch to me. Lavin is like someone who lives in the projects and because his building is bigger than the Vanderbilt Mansion tries to sell everyone that he's better off than any tycoon.
I'd say he's putting the hammer to our rocks when he says the class is stellar.
Who cares? Which is what every coach in America does about their recruiting classes.
Again it is another stupid reason to criticize. The fact is he really has brought in some very good classes sans the last one (and that was largely due to few scholarships) and he is poised to bring in another one,
Fordham.... please don't attempt to manufacture facts with the spin that Mr. Lavin class of 2014 "was largely due to few scholarships" (your phrase).
The below linked July 13, 2013 article on Zagsblog indicated that StJohn's had "three scholarships available but could end up adding as many as five players in this class, depending on what happens with the current roster".
I hope that Mr. Lavin hits the home run this recruiting cycle and signs Mr. Briscoe and others but the reality is that Lavin and staff struck out last season in early recruiting efforts.

Dude no one really cares in the scheme of things. Its a conversation. A dialogue. Back and forth. Stop hanging on every word that everyone posts that you perceive as negative. Your defense of Lavin has gotten to the point of obsessiveness. But as long as we're discussing this, are you telling me that every coach in America congratulates their staff for reeling in a stellar recruiting class before receiving one commitment? Oh come on now.
Land top class this cycle, make NCAA T & position SJU with high some quality 16 kids & Lavin will merit an extension. He will never be a great bench coach, but if he & staff work extremely hard on recruiting trail, I can live with that. In fairness, this year no one can question their effort, presence & persistence.

You state last year class wasn't a good one largely due to few scholarships. He brought in two and still had a few left. The previous year was considered stellar with just on e recruit (5 star Jordan) and Lavin had to run off Amir just to create that one opening. So I guess you can say your opinion is based on a lie which you turn into a fact. Your man Dinkins would call this a STRAWMAN argument!
It's a silly debate. He's clearly just doing some marketing. That said the 14 class is clearly not stellar nor up to the standards his harshest critics nor his staunchest supports set out for him. Seemed to me to be a case of not enough targets, I mean who were they seriously after from '14 before the spring transfer circus. Whitehead, McCullough, Larrier, and Cunningham? If KT does, however, end up being a defensive and rebounding beast then the #1 need was addressed, even if it wasn't in headline grabbing fashion. So we'll see how this year's team does. But for this year's recruiting class there seem to be plenty of targets now it's time to start closing.
