The interviewer seemed to be a big fan of Obekpa and asked the coach how he felt to have such a presence in the middle that most teams in the league don't have, but Lavin seemed to throw some ice water on it by saying that it while it was an asset, Obekpa had to mature both on and off the court. Interesting. It wasn't a knock, but it wasn't the ringing endorsement that we heard regarding Harrison's maturation last off-season. Then again, Coach seemed pretty tired and didn't really give his usual bubbly interview.
When asked what brought the turnaround in February, Coach cited Rysheed's growth. This team will really surprise, man. Anyone expecting less than 20 wins is waaaaay off even with the ridiculous schedule. 20 wins last season with three heartbreakers and we had a freshman PG who was a fraction of what he would become in February for the first half of the season.
To my dismay, Coach mentioned Dom Pointer a few times and it makes me think he will be starting. Hopefully he has grown because he was awful last year and we really suffered because of it. He wouldn't be the first senior to see everything finally click for him. I'd post more, but I have to refill my Kool-Aid.
