Lavin tweets he is off to Paris, Spain and Belgium on Wednesday to recruit.

Canaris island? What would the hall do if they lost their honey pot for mid major players?

Mixed emotions on this one Della.
Are there some great prospects across the ocean or does coach feel we are striking out on his preferred targets?
Time will tell.
Good luck coach.

Or is he laying the foundation for future years? Recruiting starts well before a players junior/senior year.

Funny timing here. This is letter of intent signing month. The deal is not sealed until it's signed. Steve may just feel that whatever is going to happen is all set to happen

My guess is he's more looking at foreigners for 2012 as a hedge or he's got a chance to get some blockbusters that he has kept under cover, and he wants to finalize it. It's just too coincidental that he's visiting there in April.

In addition, "April in Paris," aint bad !

I think that this board will be working overtime this month, HAPPY EASTER !

This is a pretty weird time to be heading off to Europe. I agree with the other poster that either the "stellar class" isn't panning out or it's all sewed up and he is as you say, planning for the future. Frankly I'm amazed that we haven't looked overseas much more till now. Being a NYC based school we have so much to offer Europeans with our ethnic diversity and culture. Hofstra always seems to score over there and they're in the suburbs.

Dammm, at a 7 3 center to our athletic players and we will be real dangerous. You cant teach size.

From the minimal stuff I've seen googling he's thin as a rail and not exactly the quickest of foot.

Who could hope for more
Go ask Notre Dame

Shane Hammink is a Dutch player born in Louisiana to a pair of very good basketball players. He's at CBA and has a lot of high major interest. His highlight reel makes him look like a long, athletic scoring wing. I bet that's who Lavin's looking at. That took a bit of sleuthing, admittedly, and there's nothing definitive; but he seems to fit.

Unless Lavin's taking an early look at v2014 Khadeem Lattin.

There's an international tournament in Tourcoing, France, on the Belgian border, as well.

yep. It's Spanish property but not that close to Spain - it's off the coast of that ungoverned part of "Morocco", Western Sahara. Probably an two hour flight from Madrid. I think.

LOL
I thought the same thing as you. Morocco doesn't have a true southern coast, but Pico was probably reffering to the southwest coast of Morocco. I flew from Madrid to Casablanca two summers ago. I was expecting to see some beauty (I guess because of the movie), but it was a craphole! Marrakech was fun, though.

The academy is in the Canary Islands. Seems like a great place to pick up some international talent with less competition. It's been mentioned before on these sites. Hopefelly Lav can find us a gem.

I see this as a positive because I can say with almost 100% certainty that at 6ft 4 this gringo is currently the tallest person in chile and in peru they are even shorter than the chileans and we need height so no need to waste time down here

It's in the south! It's off the coast! Jeez.

Casablanca is a hole. Marrakech was a little too much for me. Hot, overcrowded, gross. Fez was chill. Morocco's got a lot of beauty, overall, I highly recommend it.

Brian Flinn mentions Aleks Rostov, a 6'9" forward, who plays for CBA as well.

Sounds like Lav's heading to the big time tournament going on in Paris this weekend. He's going to love Shane Hammink.
