I believe the one with the half head is Tarik Turner.

Dunn is gonna be our PG. He’s a nice slasher and can pass too. I don’t think he will be a higher perimeter shooter but can make open shots. Unlike some others, I thought Rutherford looked quite good actually. Not sure why everybody is down on hi’. Both he and Dunn are experienced and should hold up fine by committee.

Steere is a beast physically. He’s got real springs for a guy his size and can finish. He, Sears and Roberts should be able to do a solid job inside when we get rolling. All look like they have good hands for the most part. Roberts imo, in the little time watching him seems to have made huge strides. He’s bigger, more natural looking on the court.

I honestly think we will be ok this season and no pushover. Get Greg Williams healthy, play 8-10 guys consistently and push hard on defense and rebounding. I’m somewhat encouraged in limited view of team.
* I agree with MCN re Rutherford but not convinced re: Dunn. He seemed a good contrast to Dunn. More in control. Not the offensive juggernaut Dunn looks to be but I didn't like how loose Dunn was with the ball. Didn't see enough of Rutherford but if he turns out to be a great defender and a playmaker PG that could be more valuable than a slashing scorer PG.
* I suspect we are going to have problems scoring. Not convinced Dunn is the answer for reliable, 3rd scorer nor do I think he is a PG. The admittedly limited picture that I got is loose handle and will get picked a lot, mediocre passer and juggernaut scorer mentality. Hopefully I am dead wrong here.
* FT% will be a factor because we got guys including Dunn who can draw a lot of fouls and if we in fact do tire out opponents they will be more prone to bad fouls.
* Pleasantly surprised by Roberts being aggressive offensively and showing good hands. What a story if he could emerge this season as a factor.
* Steere's hands look good too. I think we will see more defensively from him than seen in the R/W since he had opportunities for a couple of blocks and just gave up the shot.

** So Greg Williams shrunk to 6'3 and Earlington grew yet another inch to 6'6. Awesome ;)
*** Here is something that I am sure will tick some people off. I think J Cole is a real player not just a walk on. He's got poise and skill. I think he could give us legitimate minutes.
**** I like seeing CMA telling the players to tuck in their shirts!

Third scorer is the void as inferred at this point. Not as confident as most that Dunn fills that need.

I think the Chaminade kid will be able to play and give us real minutes too btw. NationL championship level athlete and smart kid.

I remember watching Cole at Molloy and thought he would be a solid Division II or III player. His decision to walk on at St. John's and work so hard reflects well on him. Still don't think he fits at this level but would certainly like to see him get some time against some of our weaker competition.

Love seeing the former players around.

Can we lock Earlington in the gym with Glove for a day.

Glover was the original “manchild” per his nickname I believe. He came that way out of the box.

I'm happy we have 2 legitimate scorers. I think the 3rd and 4th scorers, etc. will come from the front line and not the backcourt by feeding Sears, Steere and Roberts. Dunn is very effective in the open court and will be in control with the ball. He did that effectively at Jefferson while playing with Ponds. If I recall he was co-MVP at the PSAL championship. While clearly not as talented as Shamorie, he has as good a nose for the ball as did Ponds and goes after it harder. All we need from Rutherford is passing and defense. I'm hoping Williams develops into better outside shooter but not sold yet he can provide consistent scoring help.

Reggie Jessie, Ryan Williams, and Tariq Owens are the last three former players in the picture.

That looks like Kyle Cuffe instead of Reggie Jessie. His head shape and all. Jessie is the one who I initially thought was Tarik Turner (where you can halfway see his head).

Since someone had already identified Kyle, I when I said the last three I was speaking about those who had not been identified. I should have been clearer. Sorry for the confusion.

This past Saturday the Basketball program held their annual Mass of Remembrance at St. Thomas More

Quite a few former players, as well as Coach Carnesecca and Coach Kaiser, attended.

The Mass was followed by a reception and an invitation to watch practice

Coach Anderson, his staff and team also attended the Mass.

Coach Anderson also spoke to the group.

In addition, the University is hosting a Basketball Family Day on November 9 for all former players.

Should be a lot of former players at the Central Conn. game.
This picture was taken after the Mass and was also posted on the 2019 Tid Bits thread.

Was there a better SJU class ON PAPER than: Omar Cook, Darius Miles, Mo' Diakete (sic), Kyle Cuffe and Willie Shaw?

What an exciting time, riding off the high of the Barkley, Artest, Bootsy teams.

And that first game against Kentucky at the Garden with three frosh in the lineup and Glover, the upperclassman beast. I thought we were going to be a juggernaut for years to come.

If you're including Darius Miles you should include Lenny Cooke and throw in Lew Alcindor to make it an epic trip. I met Omar when he was being recruited. He didn't seem very excited about St. Johns. But even without the Darius Miles fantasy, I thought the Felipe/Zendon class was more exciting.

He only ended up here because UNC called his bluff.

If I'm being optimistic I'll agree with the above assessment. If I'm being realistic and had money on it, Caraher, Roberts, Sear, Rutherford, and Earlington would be on my "probably not Big East material but hope to god they are" list. As always, I'll be very happy to eat crow in front of everyone if I'm wrong. The only players that seem to be safe in terms of contributing significantly at the Big East level are: LJ, Heron, Williams, Steere, and Dunn. Everyone else is a major question mark. Earlington seems like a great teammate, but I don't see him as more than a garbage time guy against similar competition. He will get more minutes against the low and mid major teams. Just not sure what anyone has seen from him that makes them think he can really contribute statistically. Not a knock on him, just my opinion based on observation.

Besides Heron and Fiquoeroa who will do the scoring for us? Some of you have not been impressed with the shooting of Dunn, Caraher and Rutherford. Unless Williams has improved his shot where else is it going to come from? Am I to assume that Heron will be the shooting guard?
