SJU Power Forward Portal Targets

I haven’t watched a second of him since we were involved last year, but I loved what I saw then.

Absurd coordination for a kid that big. True 4/5 potential. Looks good already in pick and roll. Fundamentals are Karabanesque. Plays long on defense and can move his feet well. Shot looks good and I like the way he gets into his shot. Drives aren’t fast but super skilled and controlled. Shows he can counter the defender’s initial reaction.

Fair to knock off some top end ceiling for lack of elite athletic ability, but he’s got more than enough to stick in the NBA if he can grow skills.

Just really, really like this kid. I won’t get my hopes up this time, though.

You know I think you’re good at this. You should watch the recent stuff. Not knocking him and would be thrilled to grab him but just don’t see anything that stands out as elite. Good to very good footwork and good ball handling but not so much in the dribbling/break a guy down sense. Don’t see a perimeter shot that would develop in time for us to see the benefits and not sure what his best position would be in college. His height and footwork could be a big threat vs forwards but is there gonna be enough space for him alongside a college 5? Or could he handle being a college 5 himself?

Now 6 years from now? He very well could be the best pro prospect among the elite college forwards we’ve been mentioned with. To me that’s more about those guys pro prospects than it is his, but you could be right and I could be wrong. I’d rather the elite college guy and you may even agree.

My impression as noted, is the Watkins pursuit has been frustrating to staff, but they wisely are hanging in there late in the game. Perhaps Watkins camp comes half way and they figure this out. How likely is that? Only time will tell, but the clock runs out soon imo.

Y2!

But also, I think this is a blow to us. It's disappointing to go from Omier to Pryor to Watkins to Ledlum (no fault of staff on that one) to maybe Prey.

Would luv to be privy to how the NCAA determines if a player is an 'amateur vs pro' these days.
Because St. John's may be involved, they'll deem Prey a 'pro' because he was paid over the table and not under, in pre-Nil days?
We're not talking about his eligibility in the good-old-under-the-table days.
We're talking about making that distinction now, when they're all pros, lol.

Just get Prey and call it an off-season. We absolutely nailed the backcourt/wing but for whatever reason struggled landing fromtcourt talent via the portal. On paper still a very successful cycle but exhausting and ready to move on.

Why so?
Prey seems to be viewed as high as Watkins in pre-draft rankings and more so than Omier?

Omier, Mitchell, and Watkins were sure-fire things. Mitchell had some clear weaknesses in his game, but you know that you're getting someone elite at other things. Omier and Watkins were bonafide studs who have proven to play at the BE level. Pryor was a little more TBD, but I liked him and his roster fit.

Prey, who knows. Maybe I look foolish and the guy is the BE Freshman of the Year. But I find it very hard to count on any foreign player to contribute in their first year for a multitude of reasons. I'd also say that what makes someone a good NBA prospect doesn't make them necessarily a good college player. He could be a prime candidate for a "draft and stash" since he's young/tall/athletic, while Watkins is older and shows less of the raw abilities.

Very disappointing even recognizing staff gave max effort
