SJU Power Forward Portal Targets

It’s the summer chill

can we stop pretending like that guy has any better intel than others? wrong about Mgbako, wrong about Norchad, now wrong about visit tomorrow. I mean come on...
Not an apostle of his, just noticed visit date. Not a pretender either if that flies w you lol

Y2 deserves to be in the mix for his perspective/insight. Also very responsive on twitter to questions. We should all appreciate that. Just think it's less of a lock on being accurate than it once was. Things also change at a flip of a dime so may not even be his fault

I think all 79 was saying was that it’s not all about money for some of the kids being recruited. Some are also taking fit and situation into account. Meaning, if we lose out on a kid, I think 79 is saying not to automatically assume it’s cause our NIL offer wasn’t there. Maybe the fit just wasn’t right

Y2 is definitely locked in, just goes to show how fluid recruiting is and how much it changes minute to minute

It doesn't.

I mentioned the deal on a different thread. It is kids who were deemed ineligible.

Dingle and Ledlum were never deemed ineligible.

Their conference sinply chose not to participate in athletics that year.
They are ineligible this year. Now should mean now. Between 2019 and now.

New definition for “fluid” in today’s world of college football and hoops.

FLUID (adjective) a higher NIL offer was just presented and the recipient is waiting for the other school to counter. 😎👍

I guess you missed my point. I never threw shade on Pitino. In fact, just the opposite. My point is that no matter how you soft soap it, if one program offers thousands more then another, that’s where the kid and his handlers are going, especially for border line NBA talents who see this as an opportunity for financial gain if the NBA opportunity does not happen. Right now and even more so in years to come, unless there is some sort of regulation with regards to NIL the offers will get crazier and the Big Conference, State schools will buy the best teams. For many schools, the money only goes so far, for others, it’s a bottomless pit. St. John’s faired decently with NIL this year but the real question is can they sustain that?
If they win yes if we continue w big time coaches like Rick yes.

The issue was the year in question, 20-21. At no point were Ledlum and Dingle declared ineligible for that year, none.

Once you have exhausted all your eligibility anyone who petitions for an extra year and is denied could claim they were "denied."

That was never the point.

Well...My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl...

But if it’s your kid and he’s borderline which more times than not mean he’s not close and he’s getting offered let’s say 1 million for 1 year that’s pretty hard not to turn down. If the difference between let’s say another school and us is 100k I’d like to think it’s us but I can’t blame any kid in this day and age for going for the money 💰 IF that is the kids primary motivation

In the Watkins case SJU79 is implying that Pitino's honesty about his usage is a compelling part of the equation. Since CRP won't blow smoke up his ass and tell him what he wants to hear that may be a disadvantage. I am assuming that this means he wants to play the 3 and CRP told him he'll play a lot of four and be expected to be afactor underneath and on the boards. But of course money is at least as equally compelling. Watkins apparently doesn't believe he's gonna get a guaranteed contract in one of the weakest drafts in recent memory so cashing in now before he starts the struggle to achieve a lucrative payday as a pro also makes a lot of sense. The only advantage for STJ in that case would be Watkins believing that despite the lower $$$ and the fact that he might not be playing the position he wants CRP will provide him with the skills advancement to make that struggle easier in the long run and allowing him to maximize his long term earnings that the alternatives don't. I guess we'll see if that is even more compelling. Also regarding exposure I don't believe that STJ has an advantage over Michigan so that point feels moot.

For those criticizing the challenges of accurately predicting the landing spot for Watkins (or anyone else), just think about what happened with Aaron Scott. In short, he was rumored to be "a lock" for Oklahoma the night before he committed to SJU. My only point is that it's a topsy-turvy world with the transfer portal, which makes it unrealistic to have any sense of certainty on potential destinations until a kid actually arrives/signs. With that said, I continue to have full confidence that CRP and his staff will bring-in a solid/top player for the last open spot.

Glad you’re not advising these kids. Couldn’t disagree more. The “fringe” NBA kids, more than anybody else, are in need of a good coach/situation to give them the best chance at the league.

Better to lose out on a couple of hundred thousand dollars during one year of college if it gives them the best chance to make millions in the league (as opposed to being a journeyman in Europe with uncertain pay).

Of course this only applies to kids with a real opportunity to make the league, not someone who has no chance regardless of the coach or situation.
Taking the money is actually going back to college now.

Nobody knows until kids decide. Remember they are kids dealing w large amounts of money on top of where they live goto school friends and oh yeah education .

It's interesting that on this board, the consensus seems to be that St John's doesn't have as much money for players as its competitors, but on the Transfer Portal podcasts I've watched, they always say that St. John's has more money to spend on players than other schools. I wonder what information, if any, these different realities are based on.
