In a supplementary sense agree completely. Find some combos and some forwards like Watts from Wash. State.

But you need a primary ball handler.
Stack a kid like Malachi Smith with a younger PG like Reid, Njie or a few dozen others. I'm comfortable with the names out there right now and this time last year I don't think I even knew who Deivon Smith was.

people are actually worried. you should see Trilly discord. I dont understand the panic a week into portal season

Trilly discord is populated largely by toxic Twitter hashtag mutants. The sort of folks who tweet aggressively at RJ’s mom and Sim’s dad. This fanbase punches way above its weight in moronic internet flamethrowers.

We’ll get Jahmir Watkins or equivalent and all will be fine.

I agree and I am concerned. This team is being set up with a lot of mouths to feed. It will need a PG with size who has a solid handle, is a good distributor, and can shoot some. That's a very specific description, there are a limited quantity of those out there, and there is a lot of competition for them.

If we don't get that then it will either be a smaller PG true PG or a not-PG (I am not a "combo guard" guy, you're either a point guard or you aren't) with a backup-level PG. Or ball-handling by committee which means no ball handling.

Also not enthusiastic about "we'll find a Euro," that may be fine as a stretch 4 or a shooter but in most instances probably too steep a learning curve to expect a Euro to contribute Year 1 at that position.

I think it will work out in some way, but definitely concerned. The reason Pitino struck fast in the portal with Sanon and Hopkins was because he didn't want to be in the soup later when it's chaos and programs are reaching or overpaying. May wind up there with PG.
Fair to be concerned, yet not be in a panic.

I also agree w your preference for a true point guard. Assuming that even a combo guard like Demary can distinguish himself at the point is not a given. I have heard staff also is high on a legit PG, who has not yet entered portal, but does not have the big time rep of a Thornton, but has the skills imo to get the job done here. That to me is a sound option, knowing every choice as the portal plays out, has some degree of risk.

I’ve been floating the smith plus Reid/Njie idea out there since the get go. I just don’t think those guys are gonna be lacking for starting opportunities.

I think too many fans are underestimating what Sim's growth will be like next season.
Absolutely!!!! Don’t underestimate Sim as a PG. I’m a season ticket holder who also watched the Vice series. Sim hit big shots, made big defensive stops, made a big block, made huge assists (don’t forget the game winner to Zuby), and has the personality for NYC. He will tighten his handle and be great.

I would not be a happy camper if Sim is the starting PG next season
He has skills but has not displayed sufficient skills as a PG to play major minutes at that position
