SJU Portal Targets

Let’s dream for a second. Do you think Holmes can play the 4 ?

Just dreaming. What about 2 scenarios. I’m not saying this is happening ! What if we held the 4 spot for Zuby with Holmes declaring and he’s coming for $ after. Again we are just guessing/dreamimg. Or what if you were able to get a 1 year transfer 4 who would be first team but start automatically. Holmes or the other. What would you choose. And Zuby stays he’s basically getting a lot of their backup minutes for 1 year
Target will be a 5, with Zuby given every shot to start at 4 and provide spot minutes at center.

Point is the transfers/recruits we kept signing in spring 2023 kept getting better and better as the weeks wore on.

I suspect we'll see the same this year.
Unlike March 2023
In 2024, Coach Rick Pitino has more time to figure things out and choose portal players more wisely as opposed to an 11th hour recruiting scramble of last season. Our Coach, imo, made the very best of a difficult situation.
Now he has a much better feel for St. John’s and the lay of the recruiting land.

I think we have five spots not four.

Six leaving: Soriano, Alleyne, Conway, Dingle, Jenkins and Ledlum. Two in the portal: Davis and Traore. Three coming in: Lefteris, Glover and Maker.

Six plus Two Minus three equals Five.

I think this is correct.

Right now we have Wilcher, Dunlap, Luis, Taylor, Zuby, Ayo, Glover, Lefteris, Maker. 9/13 we have 4 left.

I’m guessing that like last year the number of signings will be more related to need than the 13-man scholarship limit. Assuming no more transfers out, we’re set on the wing but we need 2 forwards and at least 2 guards (probably need 3 more guards).

I completely agree that a 4 who can play on the perimeter would be a fit for Pitino. I just don't think that Holmes - who I LOVE as a player - is that guy. Put him at the 5, fine. Just don't have confidence that he would thrive as a 4 who is expected to knock down 3s. But he may want to do that to develop his profile for the NBA, sure.
I agree with most of what you said but if you look at his 23/24 stats, Holmes had a 54.4 FG% and shot 38.6% from 3. Plus when Holmes is compared to Cliff in 23/24, Cliff averaged 2.9 blocks per game and Holmes averaged 2.1 blocks per game. BTW, Holmes and Cliff are nearly the same size. I think this would create interesting problems for SJ's opponents.
