No disrespect taken. I would never tell you not to use the eye test. I do to. But I think neglecting to take anything from analytics is equally foolish, with all due respect.
Color me foolish then because to me they are utterly useless. Luis was a horrible defender last year, constantly diving for steals, committing ridiculous fouls, yet your “stats” rate him in the top 3.
Not sure how the numbers are derived but I have to look no further than that to ignore them completely.

He showed some real ability against the Georgetown guard who was lighting us up. Luis has the tools to be really good in many facets. Just has to play more controlled. Pitno needs to hammer that into him.

I am going to give you a “like” for the research. But admittedly, I have no idea what the research is saying. 😉

My look by the second paragraph of a written or spoken sports statistical analysis.

Dillon Mitchell (No. 41): St. John's is making a strong push after landing Deivon Smith and Kadary Richmond, but Cincinnati is squarely in the mix. Louisville and Auburn are also potentially in the mix.

I would be more into Mitchell than Pryor TBH. Let’s dominate on defense, transition, and pace.

Shot needs to be torn down and completely rebuilt, though.

Does the board think that Mitchel would be an upgrade over Ledlum? We are not going to get much scoring out of the 5 position, can we afford to have that at the 4 as well?

If the offensively fluid Pryor is not going to happen, then I would be thrilled to go in the completely opposite direction and bring in a defensive stopper like Mitchell, who can guard multiple positions. He could give some of the top offensive guys a break on the defensive end by sliding over to guard the opponents best player.

Kolek was allowed to roam and defend the worst offensive player throughout his college career and it worked pretty well for Marquette.

For 20-25 minutes at the 4, I’d take ledlum. But I think the real difference is someone who can sneak some minutes at the 5 to open up some lineups and provide some insurance for Zuby. Chris was not that last year. Offensively, Mitchell is that. Defensively we will see, many won’t be thrilled with a skinny 6’8 player there.

I don’t think it’s an obvious answer and I’m 100% confident that if Ledlum was entering the portal again after his Harvard run, opposed to after last year, he would be viewed by us in the same tier or higher as Mitchell.

fair enough then. Thats why I started it with “How much you decide to take from that I’ll leave up to you.”
Understood and frankly, this stuff is very close to me, a good deal of my business is explaining to the USG and defense contractors that performance metrics mean nothing unto themselves, that numbers need context in understanding how they are derived and what “good or bad” really mean in the examination of contract performance.
I have run seminars and workshops many times at the military college at Fort Belvoir and made many “enemies” from both those places by calling people out for wanting to act on numbers without any understanding of what they are really saying. The old executive mantra of “I don’t have time to get into the details” which many times just means they don’t have the wherewithal to understand nor the seeds to admit that.
So I apologize if I came on too strong, it’s just in my nature.

Rick also likes players who can put the ball in the basket, preferably from long range. He had encouraged Ledlum and Joel to take more threes.
Rick won a national championship at Louisville with a team that was ranked 216th in the country in 3-pt %.

His starting 4 and 5 combined for 0.3 attempts per game.

UConn was 85th in 3 pt % this year and played with its food the whole season.
