SJU Portal Targets

I bet Junior sees the long play here. Dent's numbers are very impressive. He scores, dishes, rebounds & shoots the 3 ball.

He's very, very good. Can create his own shot and shots for others.

Would solve a lot of questions.

Prefer him above everyone else out there especially Pope who seems like a SG in a PG's body.

Since there has been some chatter about Felipe’s cousin going portal & possible SJU involvement:

Doesn’t Thomas have UNLV roots? I agree, it is calming and reassuring with the ball in his hands, just like Barkley.
Yeah, his dad played for them when they were really good in early 90s. Rumored to be portaling though. I don’t know if we’d have a shot. But if I’m spending Repole’s money in hypotheticals, he’s right up there with Dent.

There are some interesting players. You got guys like Eric Gaines of UAB and Dug McDaniel of Michigan that are the fastest players imaginable. Pair those two up and just live with the mistakes as they run past everyone all game?

You’ve got stockier guys like Clayton that can play more physical and better in the half court.

And there are probably 20 other guys we haven’t even heard of that could fit.

I think the only way I'd pick a Boogie over more established PG is if somehow the staff knows they can keep him + Wilcher for the following year as well. That's how you stack talent.

i like dj a lot and he's certainly great, but i don't think he's at shamorie's level (from a create for himself perspective)
I hate Jenkins as a player, but even I have to admit he could get a shot whenever he wanted. He just had to dribble for 20 seconds which is what made my head explode.

Wait a year til he is ready to be dominant.

Honestly, give me any of these guys over Boogie as a freshman. Soph Boogie is a different discussion entirely, but he might not see a second season.

From a pure production standpoint next year, 1000%.

I'm saying the jump from freshman to soph for Boogie could be huge, especially if he already had one year under Pitino & playing with Sim. But the issue is you can't guarantee a second season -- for him either being too tantalizing of a prospect to not be a first rounder (despite subpar production), or him transferring.

Simeon Wilcher is the future of this program. Full stop. This has been the plan from the second he stepped foot on campus. He improved greatly this year and had a TREMENDOUS last two months of practice in season. He will be running the show.

what's the latest on our guys transferring? GTJr and RJ specifically? what are the chance they stay? would love them both back.

i one point i didn't care if RJ left, but i think consistency is key in this new world. while he as a lot to learn, the last few weeks seemed like he was turning the corner.

I am a Sim fan- and understand that freshmen tend to improve in their sophmore season... but "improved greatly" during this season might be a bit of a stretch... He had a nice stretch of play for a couple mins vs Creighton, and a decent showing vs DePaul (but so does everyone)

It's nice to hear that he had a "TREMENDOUS" showing in practices over the last two months of the season, that majority of fans don't see, but it certainly didn't translate to Game play... with the last impression of him looking like a fish out of water / scared vs Seton Hall in the BET...

I want him to be a Big piece going forward, love his energy and enthusiasm, let's hope it shows when it matters next year.

Players, specifically with Rick Pitino, but yes in general in college basketball, tend to take a big leap in year 2. Especially guards with Rick. Sim is bigger than Siva and Russ Smith, he can shoot it from all three levels, he's quick as hell and started picking up things late in the year on how to orchestrate from Jenkins.

Things weren't a straight line for him because of how good DJ was and how vital he was to literally everything on the floor, thus stunting what we could see from Sim. But you saw flashes. And so now the plan is to see longer flashes in year 2 while giving him more responsibilities.

this I completely agree with... I just didn't see a vast improvement In Game from Stonybrook to the Seton Hall game. Flashes- yes...

Fully Expect a to watch a diff player next season.

I'm not saying this to be sarcastic or overly negative, but I think Sim in the first two months of the season rarely showed any flashes. He was a mess. After the @ Creighton game (which was probably the basement with two really lazy passes for turnovers), we saw plenty on a more consistent basis. Definitely trust Rick's track record and Sim's raw talent to reach it next year, but also think it's good to have an insurance policy like Joseph + another high end guard to be there as well.
