If LMF wrote something about me I probably missed it since my reading comprehension starts to drift after 20 pages.

But as far as box scores go, I agree they lie, so if ever come across any Pace baseball box scores from early 90s disregard any info regarding a certain backup middle infielder.

Here is the thing, Luis jumper looks shaky. My buddy Marillac says he can shoot but didn’t shoot well because of Jenkins whom Marillac also blames for the migrant problem.
We both have an opinion, but mine is backed by the stat sheet not a hatred of another player.
So you are pro Jenkins now?

Trilly on Omier: Pretty sure the rest of the country just assuming he’s going to St. John’s. Which I know isn’t happening.

Been trending that way but this sounds pretty definitive door closing

Your stat sheet also says he shot 35% from three as a freshman and 79% from the line. My eyes tell me he can shoot just fine. Slow but pure release with good follow through.

He took a ton of dumb shots and he didn’t play nice with others. That’s what we should worry about along with his matador defense on the perimeter. His shooting will be fine if not a strength.

I would love to know the depth of his sources. Is he just such a self-propelled machine at this point that he has moles in admissions offices that tell him Omier signed paperwork with Baylor but St. John's has no such paperwork for him?

Because it seems like his shooting percentage is very high to be depending on only the word of a kid and his camp.

My only question is, how is Smith getting into the lane when Kadary is dominating the ball and trying to get to the free throw area? I love getting Smith, just don't see him coexisting well with Kadary. Hope I'm wrong

Smith is running the show. You don’t bring in a player who was top 5 in the country in assists to take a back seat to anyone. Kadary will get his touches and then some, but he’s going to have to adjust and play more off the ball than he did last year.

Thought he was as much to blame as anyone for the struggles and I do think he is partially to be blamed for Dingle and Soriano struggles. Luis seemed impervious to anything getting in way of getting his shots off though.
But if we got a guard with his stat line to transfer in, what would the box score tell you?

From what I gather, he has one or multiple sources within most programs, some of whom he trusts more than others. He's said a few times to a few different fanbases stuff along the lines of "if you knew who my source is at your school it would melt your brain." I believe one of the main reasons guys within programs feed him info is because they can also have him report stuff that makes them look good like inflated NIL numbers/offers on kids they missed on and stuff like that.

There's also a few programs where he says "I don't have any sources there" or "my source there just got fired/left so I'm trying to cultivate some new ones". He's obviously not the type of guy to just throw things against the wall if he doesn't know anything.

My guess, along with many others around here is that his SJU source is Matt. I also don't think there's any chance that Pitino doesn't know who the source is or doesn't control the info that gets passed to him.

I think there's a lot of constructive discussion notwithstanding a fair bit of "men are from Mars and women are from Venus dynamic.".

There's definitely overlap in that you do need players who contribute certain skills and stats. But there is a lot more to the game and to team building than stats.

You have folks here who are gaga for Omier having never seen him play a game. You also have folks here who are unimpressed with guys based on their stats.

Role, scheme, fit, and chemistry matter. So does defense and hustle and intangibles.

Take a look at Josh Hart on the Knicks. His rebounding is great. His other stats are meh at best. And yet he is absolutely invaluable to the success of that team. Would they be anywhere without Brunson's game and stats also? Of course not. But it isn't just about stats.
I agree it’s not just about stats, it’s about court awareness, passing and of course getting team mates involved. However in todays game, outside shooting is a very important component. Not just from the scoring itself but a good shooter opens up the court for others. A great shooter will demand defensive attention which frees others to score.

Completely agree

Larry,
Luis’ three point percentage was much better his freshman year and I’d expect him to be closer to that number. I think last year was a bit of an anomaly, but only time will tell.

Both kids want PG exposure to get to next level. Modern hoops has guys playing more on and off the ball, so they will both get the minutes and experience they want. Kadary played off ball a lot at SH and posted up quite a bit generating assists, buckets and a huge key, drawing fouls. Jenkins obviously was a valuable scorer last year, but drawing fouls was not his forte .

Bottom line is we need both guys and Pitino will figure out minutes and combinations. I am operating on assumption Smith will commit this week. Kadary’s camp beats to a different drum and hopefully he opts for us this week. Imo, getting both will make SJU a very solid program. Without either it becomes more challenging.

That really is my point. Most of us on here don’t really need box score to evaluate ST John’s players. Obviously there are players that people have different opinions on but the box score for the most part is just a part of the evaluation process.

Now for teams outside of the top 25 we basically have to for the most part rely on stats. So anyone who says they watched more than five 10pm Utah games is either lying or has no life. I saw him play twice I think. Now he actually played well both games and nothing I saw made me say he is a terrible shooter, it didn’t make me say he was Chris Mullin either. So I looked at his stats…..

I like Luis. But his stats merely back up the eye test for me. Doesn’t shoot any two jumpers the same way. Again he is a scorer which is fine.

I plead guilty to the no life.

He's shot between 75-80% both years from the line. No reason he can't be a good shooter from three imho; as I said time will tell.
