I think it’s an easy sell. Smith plays 25 mins which leaves 15 for Kadary to play point. The remaining time they split the pg duties and benefit from being set up for better shots by the other off the ball. And you learn to play the best defense possible.
I think there should be some minutes for Wilcher to run the point. He will get sufficient minutes combining time as the primary ball handler and off the ball.

The issue is Deivon was surrounded by shooters at Utah so he had plenty of room to operate and plenty of open lanes to attack. With potentially Kadary, Luis and Zuby/Vince sharing the court with him those lanes won’t exist. Going to need someone like Luis and Wilcher to become real 3 point threats.

Weird to say for a Sophomore but given the current college landscape it might be a make or break year for Dunlap. He’s going to be needed to stretch the floor and the team will need him to connect on ~38% with decent volume. If he can become strong and quick enough to just become an ok defender he should have a solid role on this roster. Just needs to make the shots

Marillac, this may shock you but there are some folks here who watch basketball and then there are others who read box scores and Twitter. The two groups tend to have a very different perspective on some things, and the overlap between the two usually gets lost entirely.
Gee LMF, I hope you were not referring to me as I would easily hold my own with my knowledge of hoops with anyone on this site. That comes from being in the coaching field, scouting, player evaluations at a fairly high level etc. not just watching Johnny hoops.

The problem I see on this site is that if you have a different take on what may make a team successful, and it is looked upon as being negative, you can be subjected to all sorts of side comments and “good natured” attacks.

For instance, there are those posters, myself included, that don’t believe our outside shooting, to date, has been addressed. Because as another poster mention, the posters who bring this up are just negative, or as you say may just read box scores and twitter, no constructive discussion can ever take place.

this is so ironic lol

I hope it's easy enough that both have signed all the paperwork that needed to be signed and the only thing to do is decide whether it's more exciting to roll them out one at a time or announce a double commitment.

I think there's a lot of constructive discussion notwithstanding a fair bit of "men are from Mars and women are from Venus dynamic.".

There's definitely overlap in that you do need players who contribute certain skills and stats. But there is a lot more to the game and to team building than stats.

You have folks here who are gaga for Omier having never seen him play a game. You also have folks here who are unimpressed with guys based on their stats.

Role, scheme, fit, and chemistry matter. So does defense and hustle and intangibles.

Take a look at Josh Hart on the Knicks. His rebounding is great. His other stats are meh at best. And yet he is absolutely invaluable to the success of that team. Would they be anywhere without Brunson's game and stats also? Of course not. But it isn't just about stats.

So if Smith gets in the lane, sucks in the defense and kicks to a set shooter, that shooter isn’t getting a higher % shot than if it was just swung around the perimeter? I don’t believe that for a second.

I’m not worried about shooting with Smith. We can run a 4 out there in Scott that shot 37% on 3.5 attempts last year. Karaban, by comparison, shot 37.9% on 4.5 attempts. Newton shot 32.1% and Castle shot 26.7%. Spencer did shoot 44%. We could approximate that in the aggregate.
My only question is, how is Smith getting into the lane when Kadary is dominating the ball and trying to get to the free throw area? I love getting Smith, just don't see him coexisting well with Kadary. Hope I'm wrong

The roster construction is definitely potentially a bit strange, but there are a lot of different parts and a good amount of talent. It will be up to the chef to figure out how to prepare a meal out of the groceries he bought. I am overall optimistic that it will get figured out, especially coming off of last year's experience.

The spacing absolutely won’t be the same as he enjoyed in Utah. I think that drives down his shooting %s. He won’t find a better place to accumulate stats than Utah.

Dunlap has to be able to make shots. Wilcher has to be able to make shots. Scott we already know can space the floor.

Maybe Zuby can give us little from deep as a junior.

Also, Richmond from the high to mid post is very dangerous.

That's been his problem since the inception of this board, but he keeps coming back.

Not to mention, I have a hunch LMF wasn't directing his post at him; moreso at WASJU (Larry Wright).
If LMF wrote something about me I probably missed it since my reading comprehension starts to drift after 20 pages.

But as far as box scores go, I agree they lie, so if ever come across any Pace baseball box scores from early 90s disregard any info regarding a certain backup middle infielder.

Here is the thing, Luis jumper looks shaky. My buddy Marillac says he can shoot but didn’t shoot well because of Jenkins whom Marillac also blames for the migrant problem.
We both have an opinion, but mine is backed by the stat sheet not a hatred of another player.
