There was some very early talk of some mutual interest but that went away a while ago.Didn't think we were active with DJ Davis?

Right, thought that was the case. Thanks NCJ.There was some very early talk of some mutual interest but that went away a while ago.
Pretty horrible one too.
Evans is not a target. The report of him visiting was not accurate according to staff it never got confirmed. I think the kid or his camp jumped the gun in telling Jamie Shaw about it. He was likely a back up option and maybe some miscommunication. Thanks for the update Dave. Do you have an idea of other guards we're targeting, outside of Smith and Evans? I'm also curious about the recruitment of Dillon Mitchell. I think he's also a big fish but won't help with scoring at all -- outside of putbacks and fast break points.
Smith #1
Thanks man!Evans is not a target. The report of him visiting was not accurate according to staff it never got confirmed. I think the kid or his camp jumped the gun in telling Jamie Shaw about it. He was likely a back up option and maybe some miscommunication.
I don't have any guard names besides Smith I'm comfortable sharing.
Think Mitchell is a really interesting piece but gonna be difficult as he's viewed in very high regard right now. We'll see how that progresses.
Kayden Mingo and Nigel James. They also have Kiyan Anthony who is not a PG but can handle the rock from what I’ve seen.Do the have PG? That’s # 1 on my list.
Mingo can play, there will be a lot of competition to get himKayden Mingo and Nigel James. They also have Kiyan Anthony who is not a PG but can handle the rock from what I’ve seen.
I'd be happy with a PG who can shoot and score 13 a game, and a PF who cans score 9-10 a game.I think Vince and Scott are very solid pieces, the type of pieces you need to fortify what you plan to be a winning team in your (Coach Pitino's) image. Now you need to reel in at least one big time fish, but likely two. And those two have to be high level scoring pieces.
For that sake of this exercise I'll say we do not land Cliff Omoruyi, Cliff also doesn't fit the bill for a high level scorer, but he is a big time fish. St. John's needs two pieces where they are going to be able to get 30 points give or take a night from. I think Simeon can be a 10 and 6 type of player in year two. I think RJ (if healthy) can be a all second team big east player who averages about 14-17 a game. Dingle returning would be a huge check mark in this area. I'm not sure if staff is proceeding recruiting with the anticipation that he's coming back or not, but I'm guessing they are operating as if not.
I do know that the case with Jordan and Chris is moving forward legally. As far as timeline on an answer likely not immediate, so again staff likely operating as if they don't get these guys back and if they do, big bonus.
Full steam ahead on their efforts to get Deivon Smith on campus asap I've been told. He would certainly be a big time add.
I'm encouraged by the solid two additions and very much looking forward to how they fill the next three.
Smith is oneCan you elaborate on which two?
I'm thinking we are looking to add 2 guards, one who can be more of a traditional PG role, and one who can serve as a swing/scoring guard, since Sim will be playing both spots.
Yeah, I went on the inter-webs and researched it. Mingo is the more highly rated of the two, but both are top 100 type kids.Kayden Mingo and Nigel James. They also have Kiyan Anthony who is not a PG but can handle the rock from what I’ve seen.
Meant Smith was one of two guards visiting next week from what I heardLuis sliding over to 2g in some lineups? And, I guess, the freshman playing some minutes.
Vet PG and a shooter and we are in good shape.Meant Smith was one of two guards visiting next week from what I heard
One’s guarding Cragg from EricHeard two guards will visit next week

If hypothetically Cliff landed here then you'd move Ejafor to the 4 and have Iwuchukwu back up both spots, I guess, but it would really hamper your shooting unless Luis and Ejafor both improved dramatically in that department (which I actually expect from Luis but not from Ejafor).
Dillon Mitchell presents a similar challenge, you can play him at the 4 and Ejofor at the 5 and have Iwuchukwu back up both spots, I guess, but again really limits your offense (although it maybe helps your defense).
All in all I'd rather add a shooter and a defend-and-distribute minded PG to the mix and let Rick coach em up
