Definitely bag chae. Why leave duke like a premier team in the nation to goto Baylor? Who has a better chance of dancing? Kid just got paid..... appears it's more about money then bball so not disappointed . Rick wants players that want to be here and of course get some dough too not the other way around
Baylor has been a better basketball program then Duke for awhile now. And has a much better coach.

Not gonna lie, Matt A being in charge worries me a bit. realize circumstances change but getting your guy to hit the portal and not being able to get him is a little concerning.

I don't have the info to say it was on Matt but it's fair to question. Hopefully lessons are learned this go around. It sounds like this is a really crazy portal cycle, but no excuses.

I’ve had similar thoughts lately. I have no clue what Matt A actually does and if he’s doing a good job or not. All I can go on is results. I think it’s fair to question what he’s bringing to the table, but again I know very little of what goes on behind the scenes.

Not good.

McDermott certainly has a knack for finding kids that fit his program . And , he gets them to Creighton
St Mary’s has a good program but , not as high a level as Creighton . Catholic school to Catholic school for Aidan . Makes sense
And , he doesn’t have toplay second fiddle to Gonzaga every year.
Which raises a interesting question , who has the better program over the last 10 years , Creighton or Gonzaga ?
Who’s a better Coach , Few or McDermott ?

A factor that I don’t think anyone has mentioned is this , if Roach came here to NY with a 1 Million dollar deal , he would pay about $ 75,000in NY State Income tax .

In Texas for $ 1 million , he would pay about $ 10,000 in State Income Tax .

This is not a political statement . It is a Financial Statement .

Don’t kid yourselves , these Portal players have all sorts of Financial and Legal Advisors . In addition to those who hang around the Player , family , friends , new friends , etc

You sure you got this right? I think we pay income taxes on a graduated scale with people making $1MM paying 6.85% on the amount of income over $215k. I don't think Texas has an income tax so maybe the savings will work out the same in the end. There may still be benefits of playing in the NY area over Waco that could outweigh saving the $50k in additional taxes.

The problem I’m having with the Matt/Cliff connection is two fold.

1. As someone mentioned earlier, why was Matt not aware that there would be multiple bidders that would be entertained by Cliff’s camp?

2. Did such an emphasis on Cliff prevent the staff from honing in on other, as good or even better post prospects who came into the portal?

I’m not at all implying that Matt’s not doing a good job cause like others, I really don’t know what he does. This is only regarding his relationship with Cliff O.

Just be thankful you weren't there; it was hot as blazes. ;)
Permit me this 1 diversion . My Wife was in Greece 2 years ago on a Cruise . Loved it !
Went to a Restaurant one night and ordered a Greek Salad .
Asked the Waiter if she could have some grilled Chicken on top of the Salad ?
He said ,” No .” And , walked away .

I told her she must have forgotten the old SNL show with Belushi as the Waiter where no matter what the Customer ordered they got “ Cheeseburger , Cheeseburger , Pepsi, no Coke .”

100%. Don't think we can wonder out loud what he's doing with other recruits.

As far as Matt A. goes, he can be blamed or not, but make no mistake, Omoyuri became pretty much about $ and I am not sure connections, personalities, history, early work, etc. even matter that much anymore. The early idea that he wanted to stay in the area just paled as a factor to the money.

He may be able to stay close enough and get the money he wants anyway.

May be fair to judge staff re portal in a month. If we depend solely on Matt A, which I strongly doubt, we are in trouble. It is impossible for one guy to handle this stuff. Most programs have a designated guy like him who handles $ end & sets
the table for HC & right hand guy like Mas. The close is really a Pitino responsibility and he has been solid at that for a long time. We’ll be able to better judge portal performance and roster in a month, not too much to ask imo.

Shifting gears, Rick is an excellent player development guy and may not be suited for the portal build, revolving door approach. Hope I’m wrong.

Agree with your last paragraph. Rick’s strength and success has been based on player development. The new world of college hoops, the portal and liberal transfer rules (or no rules) have taken that away from him. I wonder how much longer he will put up with this insanity?

I really do encourage people to listen to that podcast with the agent. I think we all look at only the negative sides of the portal from a CRP's perspective, but he also talked about an anonymous coach who hated the portal last year because he had so many spots to full, but loves it this year because they can sprinkle in a few guys + get rid of a couple guys who weren't a fit. I can easily easily easily see Rick fitting that description -- especially next year.

The key to him being happy here is that we have the NIL to retain his guys + continue to build on a foundation + have the money to get one or two impact guys each year. If we were a NIL-poor school and would lose his recruits, I'd be deeply pessimistic. but we aren't. In some ways, recruiting has changed, but honestly, don't you guys think CRP was always recruiting high character guys from families who weren't bag chasing?

Outside of a game against Houston (fair enough), his #s against high majors is excellent last year.

Schools to contact him. Give me Deivon Smith and Ken Evans Jr. I'll go to war with that starting backcourt.

But as with other successful programs like Duke, Tennessee North Carolina etc. as kids have successful seasons they will look to parlay it into a money making opportunity and bolt at the end of the season. It didn’t happen to the Johnnies this year cause there were not any holdovers except for one, that other teams were willing to bid for. But I would bet that if we have a successful season next season, and whoever the stars are, be it Wilcher, Dunlap etc. those kids will be testing the portal market.

West Virginia recently reached out to transfers Ken Evans (G – Jackson State) and John Tonje (G – Missouri), they tell The Portal Report and WV Sports Now.
Evans (6-foot-4) is the reigning SWAC Player of the Year. Evans has most recently heard from FAU, Hawaii, Minnesota and West Virginia and is trying to finalize a visit with Mississippi State for the upcoming weekend. Evans averaged 18.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.3 steals through 32 games with Jackson State this year. The Jackson, Ms. native spent five years with the Tigers, redshirting his first season.
Evans has one year of eligibility remaining.
