Want to make it clear I’m not anti Smith in any way. I think he’d be a great pickup. This is moreso about Mitchell at the 4 which would already have three starters (Luis, Mitchell, Zuby) that don’t threaten the defense with 3 point shooting
I’m in the camp of you gotta take a guy like Mitchell if he’s available to you but it’s definitely an interesting fit.

With the lack of shooting elsewhere we’ll likely need him to double that volume. Big ask for a 5th year kid that has averaged less than 1 made 3 per game in his career
That’s different than saying he’s gotta develop a 3 point shot.

We’d still have Lefteris, Glover, Dunlap and possibly Scott. All very good shooters.
My personal rule of thumb is to expect zero from Freshmen and just hope to be pleasantly surprised. Dunlap and Scott will definitely help in that department.

Scott would be a solid piece. Mitchell is a very good player but I do wonder how Mitchell/Scott/Ledlum would fit if Ledlum gets granted the extra year. Wouldn’t mind Ledlum getting the extra year and pulling out of the Mitchell sweepstakes

Other than Scott, none of those guys have proven they can consistently shoot well at the college level.
A fair conversation to have after roster is filled out is whether or not it looks better than last year’s, factoring in anticipated improvement of returnees and productivity of new portal guys at previous stops, injury recovery and takes on opinions on the “fit factor”. It really is guesswork, but could be interesting discussion. I know Rick had to rush last year to reconstruct things. We now have a reasonable base of returning players and soon will have open spots filled. An objective comparison is not a perfect process, but worth looking at imo.

If it’s even a conversation then we are in big trouble.

I think it’ll be somewhat of a fair conversation to have only because it’ll end up being a proxy argument for how much you think Luis/Zuby/Wilcher/Dunlap will improve. I’m bullish on all four, probably in that order.

But I do expect every roster addition to be big time athletes & better fits for Pitino than any of Soriano/dingle/ledlum/davis/conway/drissa. I exclude Taylor because I do think he’s that caliber of athlete and fit, more of an execution issue

Unless Smith or Luis develop a consistent 3 point shot this off-season I don’t know how a lineup of Smith, Luis, Mitchell and Zuby/Vince is going to score in the half court even with a shooter in that last spot. All of those players are very good individually but together they would be pretty easy to guard
Dunlap will be a sniper this year.

Trilly says it's Vince, but Zach says it's a center who's been 'prioritized'. Hmm? Seems a mismatch, but i guess we have to go with Trilly?
Does seem ;like a couple key pieces may be known this week, which is a very good thing.

And hopefully stronger, but I expect him to build on his good passing skills (especially feeding post), hustle and some good defensive moments. He seems to be a hoops junkie with right work ethic and feel for game to certainly improve and contribute more consistently. Sons of coaches often do that.

If we aren’t significantly better then I don’t think we get a third year of Pitino.

Pitino clearly did not enjoy his experience last year and the one-time transfer policy no longer being enforced took a lot of wind out his sail. He’s got some easy outs with NCAA policy being what it is.

Hey, I expect us to be a top 25 team so I agree. I just think on paper, people’s perceptions will be based on what they think of the core four.
