And..........I wonder how such a player blends into and affects backcourt rotations and Simeon Wilcher's development.Every time I see an explanation of Kriisa's game I can't help but think of Curbelo

Kerr eats peanuts Curbelo straight up popcornEvery time I see an explanation of Kriisa's game I can't help but think of Curbelo
I agree with you in theory. The risk is you develop the h.s. kids with potential; and then as juniors, they jump ship for bigger $$ anyway. It will be tricky to find the balance between the grads and the transfers.I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I rather build the team with guys that were top 100/150 out of HS, that come from well coached programs and didn’t get much playing time and go recruit those kids. Like we did with Zuby this year.
There probably is less shenanigans regarding $$$ and the kid probably has a chip on his shoulder with something to prove. Find the undervalued guys.
I rather coach a top 50 HS kid up with little playing time, than pay 1mil for a kid who averaged 20ppg at mid major level. That’s just me thinking resourceful $$$ and creatively against the norm. Seems like everyone’s jockeying for the big fish (and of course 1 or 2 are great)
To me, the Curbelo comparison is more about how they are sometimes going to make you want to pull your hair out with their turnovers and mindless decision making. I think there are a ton of similarities in that respect. Elsewhere they are much different players as you said.I can’t see how Kriisa is anything like Curbelo in any way. Curbelo was waning since his first season at Illinois. Curbelo also had no shooting ability at all and was a headcase out there, constantly pouting and getting in his head.
Kriisa sounds more like he’s got a killer instinct, can shoot extremely well and has run the PG spot at a major top 10 team. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in 2-3 guard offenses at times as well with his ability to shoot and play combo.
In addition Rick will have him learning to play defense and a matchup zone like Rick runs is perfect for his style. Compares more like a Daniss Jenkins to me rather than Curbelo.
Rick is hungry for success. Just got to trust Rick & Staff. They know the stakes are high.
Not even sure why Kriisa would take the visit to Cinci at this point
hu hu hu... wha???
But he reposted it and his banner has an old pic of him in SJU uniform. Hmmmm2022 post

Mohamed Keita, 7-footer from Guinea out of the NBA Academy Africa and Winchendon Prep, committed to St. John's, he told ESPN. Just had an impressive showing at the NBA's Basketball Africa League (BAL) this spring. Good long-term prospect. Highlights:

Self promotion for portalYes, but the point is Mo reposted it to today for some odd reason. Good times I guess.
Why, then, does Rick 'seem to' want him?To me, the Curbelo comparison is more about how they are sometimes going to make you want to pull your hair out with their turnovers and mindless decision making. Rick wasn’t very successful in teaching the new guys defense in one offseason this past season and Kriisa is starting from a much lower point than them. He will be essentially useless in the press and won’t be able to be hidden in the matchup zone imo
He is transferring from Tulsa and he use to be at SJU.
The DraftXPress report was from 2022 when he originally verballed to SJU.
That's it.
Rick must see him as a fit for how he wants to play next year and think the positives outweigh the negatives relative to other options available and he must not be commanding a high NIL demand (really haven't heard any schools pursuing him hard other than Cinci who already has enough guards). I personally am not a fan of his game but I recognize there are positives in it and I trust Pitino to maximize those positives and minimize the negatives as much as possibleWhy, then, does Rick 'seem to' want him?
