SJU Portal Targets

Kadary guy & sense he enters portal. Heard an astounding NIL number he threw at SH. Somewhere along the line you have to say no realizing you have full team to pay. To me if he gets extravegant and you sre still in it w Cliff, big guys are harder to come by and Cliff could help w rebounding, blocks and triggering fast pace Rick likes. This stuff is loco.

The NCAA and the hangers on with no interest in what is actually best for the kids are going to wind up killing the golden goose.

I really hate this new paradigm. I’ve loved college basketball my whole life. My favorite sport. Not sure that will last much longer.
No doubt. If toothless NCAA can’t at least institute a rule limiting transfers to one time and only a second if your coach leaves, the sport is cooked. Of course such rule would be subject to litigation and then what, if successful? Kids will be transferring and playing mid season soon. The need to do something sane for next season is obvious, but not sure where the leadership will come from. Perhaps the head coaches can lead the effort, because most can’t stand this situation and realize the game is in jeopardy.

Gonna be honest. We'd all feel better about the NIL paradigm if we had more money to get players.
Not me, double whammy is open transferring and trying to keep kids while poaching from other program. A great part of Dance is seeing well coached mid majors knock off a higher level team. The current system is slowly destroying teams like Iona who lost a half dozen kids last I looked and that may become norm for them. Re NIL alone, I love the fact players can finally be compensated, but I hope there is a happy medium to current situation.

Unlimited transfers bother me as well, but I see it as a separate but related issue. Any pro sports league would be boring/unrelatable/impossible to follow if everyone was on a one year contract. Totally agree with that.

I just think the NIL stuff burns a lot more when you're getting outbid in a secretive black market of sorts. If we had already locked up Cliff and in the running for other big time guys, I sincerely don't think that's where *this* thread's direction is taking on April 14th. A ton of stuff to fix with NIL -- I actually think all of this is more damaging to 80-85% of players, and only benefits the high end.

Forgetting about what’s right for the kids and as a pure fan, the sport was much better when kids were inhibited from transferring. I loved getting to know the players and watching them develop. A mid-major like Davidson could ride a kid like Steph Curry to greatness. Four years of watching the great Malik Sealy. He’ll, I’d settle for two years of Ron Artest, Marcus Hatten, or Dwight Hardy or three years of Shamorie Ponds! Countless other examples. Now, I barely know our players and boom they graduate or go to another school. It stinks!

I could not disagree more, the game is far more to me than just paying to get players. I watched Omoyuri for three years with Rutgers and he is a fine player, really good defensively, challenged offensively but my rooting interest for SJU is not enhanced or diminished one bit if he comes or not. I am interested in the team they put on the floor next year not what players then can buy. So like Panther, I won’t know or feel a thing until the team happens.

I have no faith in the head coaches. Many have been doing this under the table for years and now while many speak against it, those power 6 schools with big NIL budget coaches see this as an advantage not a negative.

The team they can put on the floor is the team they can pay for.

I can't understand how anyone actually believes this. Coach Pitino and his staff are offering a scholarship to someone they have not seen play, GTFOH. There is an App or Website where schools can pull up games of every D1 college basketball team. Are y'all blind to the fact that this is what our video coordinator does, prepare film on all of our prospective recruits.

Let's be real, we have Coach Pitino, Coach Masiello, Coach Macon, and Matt A involved in our recruiting efforts and y'all are quoting Trilly, lmao. While I have no doubt that Trilly has many connections, let's not get carried away, Trilly is no Pitino when it comes to evaluating players. Since I have absolutely no control over who will be on our roster next season, I am just going to sit back, relax and let Coach Pitinio and his staff do their jobs.

Wishing everyone a Blessed Sunday.
And don’t forget Coach and staff have free access to the expert opinions posted on this site. 🙂
