SJU Portal Targets

Cliff scored about 10 in the Big Ten...and way, way better defensively, but may not be a real option.

Way, way better? What are you basing this on? Amari Williams won CAA defensive POTY 3x and is also being recruited by Kentucky, Duke, Creighton and Indiana. You keep harping on this idea that Cliff is vastly superior to Amari, and I ask again, what are you basing this on?

Eye test on Cliff...three years anchoring one of the best defensive teams in Big Ten......he's taller and longer...and quicker /fasterthan Amari....You're seriously comparing CAA to the Big Ten? I don't think there is anyone who'd prefer Amari if we have the choice....which we probably don't.....maybe to get either one.

LA Dodgers GM Andrew Friedman had a great quote, which, yes, is now applicable to college basketball.

"If you're always rational about every free agent, you will finish third on every free agent.""
was thinking similarly the other day... to quote a great philosopher... with a solid NIL, we can make "strong a$$ offers".... but if we are 100k short on some of our priority targets... we might be left with the scraps...

The team they can put on the floor is the team they can pay for.
Not at all, nothing could be further from the truth. They will have to pay but you need the right players blended into a team, not just players being judged and rated by you guys looking at static stats and highlight reels. I understand fans discussing players on those terms but that is only bar talk, and whether Omoyuri or someone else is the right center for his team is a call Pitino is paid to make, so I don’t care when he signs players, don’t even really care who he signs because I won’t know a damn thing about them until I see them play as a team.

Hurley said it best re portal, you are not recruiting an all star team and you must get guys who will play well together and complement each other.

The freedom that players have today sure keeps me interested in this team. I used to check in half a dozen times during the off season. Now I am checking every day. I'm not any less into following this sport three years into it. The money people pay to watch and attend games is growing.

The freedom to transfer to other schools was a long time coming for players. The flow of players will slow down a bit with this fifth year covid year finally running out after next season. Perhaps things will evolve with contracts keeping players for multiple years. It sounds like kids are getting better/smarter representation.

Hopefully, we are in a position of looking for less players in the portal as the staff moves into year three and beyond. I don't think it's a winning formula to rely on the portal for more than one or two players a year.

If all you say is true, and I really do agree, how does that make what DK said totally untrue?
