SJU Portal Targets

The transfer portal has become a s-storm.

According to On3 there are 858 players entered the basketball transfer portal.

Only 7.23% have committed.

Reportedly the assistant coaches are in breakneck speed to obtain tapes of players, review the tapes, and contact the players while players are inundated with phone calls from dozens of college coaches which are emboldening the players to make sometimes unrealistic demands.

I blame the feckless NCAA for the situation in college sports for not providing better leadership over the decades in providing shared revenue.
💯 but On3 total might be old number I have heard well over 1,000

i wish we had someone adept enough and with network experience to help navigate this craziness....

With all those suspensions, let’s hope Kerr doesn’t make Curbelo look like a choir boy? 😂👍
Literally his two suspensions were:
  1. Estonia pro contract pre-college
  2. Receiving impermissible benefits at Arizona
None are character-related issues.

I don't want my tone to be misconstrued. I'm not even all-in on this signing (if it is him), but I don't think the red flags are his character or the WVU season last year. The red flags to me are: his defense, his turnovers, and any ability to drive to the basket.

I'm not going to pretend that I watched a ton of games on him, but he's definitely a P5-level starter. If he ends up being a 25 mpg guy, our roster is in good shape. Offensively, he provides spacing we desperately need.

He's similar to Jenkins in that he doesn't get any free throw attempts (1.7 FTA per game vs. 2 FTA), but the usage #s are very different (18% vs. 25%). We won't be having the same debate last year about him ball hogging/taking too many shots.

Again, very very hard to judge any of these signings in isolation. Last year, I know we all would've been thrilled to have him.

A friend spoke to the AD of a Big East school yesterday (not STJ's) and reported the AD said that in addition to the staff coaching staff being overwhelmed by the process that many targets have unrealistic monetary and on monetary demands.

No one is surprised by unrealistic monetary demands but demands about playing time, additional transfer teammates, tickets, being the highest paid players, etc further complicates the process.

Krissa is a terrific player. Tough AF... he will knock down open 3, put ppl in right position and get in your face if your not. Wipe out last yr... he would be a great first domino to fall. As for Cliff yes i said he was done. He was. I can nor will say anymore that anything is done. Ever. Had a kid commit yesterday and last sec new coach comes in and doubles offer. Cliff had an offer he was accepting here. He now has higher offers. This will continue to happen. Where he ends up no idea..SJ still very much in play. Apologies for misinformation...lesson learned

Never ever apologize for sharing info here, it's always appreciated and everyone knows you don't come here with any agenda. The landscape has changed and it's wild.

Otis , good points all . And , while I have no idea who those 7.23 percent Transfer players are collectively , I would think many of them would not be on Pitino’s Radar

So our panicking about No commits right now , appears to be , at least , somewhat premature .

Pitino wants a certain type of player that fits his style . I think this year he will not succumb to taking players that don’t fit that style .

Pitino has a track record of getting players that can perform at a high standard as part of a team
I think we can trust him and his staff to do that this season .
We also seemingly have given little or no credit to the HS players coming in , Glover and Lefty .
RP wrapped them up early . Which would seem to suggest they both passed his requirements .

I think you can take it to the Bank that Lefty will be solid in all the fundamentals . Which is why so many European players flourish in the NBA.

Be patient .
