Sim and Brady (not SJU Portal Targets)

Sim will be fine. Many of us are frustrated, but he is just experiencing growing pains and will make a big leap in his junior year. He's learning and developing. He's got so many tools and with summer of working out and watching video of himself play this season. Learn and correct.

IMHO almost 100% of Sim's problem is between his ears. There's nothing wrong with his physical ability or his basketball skills. His shooting form is excellent. The shots he misses against high-level competition are no more closely guarded than the ones he hits against the lower-level teams.

It's purely confidence or mental. If he can get past that, he's as good as any guard in the Big East.
If you waved a magic wand and Sim was shooting 40% from three, he still wouldn’t be near the top guards in the league.

He can get there. His class was absolutely crushed by these 5th and 6th year Covid kids. It’s even more pronounced with him as someone who is physically immature.

He has early 2nd round draft potential, but he’s got a lot of work to do to get there.

I’d sign up right now for 12 ppg, 45% from 2 and 35% from 3 as a junior with added strength and better defense. Those would be great numbers for a 3rd guard which you need - every team still standing has at least 3 good guards.

I’m a Wilcher fan and believe , even in this day and age of NIL and Portal he should stay .

Pitino has a 3 year investment in him , if he comes back .

Sim still has that elite Potential and you do not jettison that lightly .

Sure , he needs to improve , Stronger, etc

But , the pieces are there . He’s got a great shooting stroke and that’s a ability that isn’t easily acquired .

I think it’s important to keep our Core 3 Zuby , Wilcher and Luis together for 1 more run .
Brady ? He may enter the Portal .Who knows

Ayo likely to return . Lefty and Prey , we will see what happens .

Vince ? Is he going to provide anything more than he did this season ?

I would like to see us get a lefty shooter that can get to the rim too.
Kind of like a Can Jones .

It’s harder to defend lefties if they have game to begin with .

Notably , both Mullin and Berry were left handed . Legends !

And Mike Moses.

And Mike Moses.

Yea. Mike was hardly in the class of Mullin or
Berry though

2 Wooden Award winners in back to back years .

I still contend that Walter should have had more of a role on that 85 Final 4 team .
Our Coaches didn’t seem to exploit that . Especially the Semi Final game against G ‘town

Short and sweet, Sim has to improve his play, get stronger and come back with readiness and commitment to compete against seasoned, talented transfers. If he does not distinguish himself to be a top one or two guy, I would hope he accepts being a first player off the bench player w adequate minutes. Continuing to play for Pitino would offer him a chance to achieve his full professional potential wherever that is. To pick up and leave seems ill advised, the grass is always greener as they say, but in the long term not superior to his opportunity here. Being in a talented three guard cadre in a top program is nothing to minimize.

What happened to short and sweet? 😉😊

I could be wrong but I expect after two years with Rick, Sim will know better than look for any guarantees in the way of playing time and as long as he feels wanted he'll be back.

Love your takes SLY --- but in '85 Georgetown had our number featuring Walter more or not. Matchups and coaching they were beating us 8 out of 10 times, just like we were beating Nova 8 out of 10 times due to matchups.

On Sim, I definitely want him back one Jersey guy to another.

I was on a Twitter (X) Spaces meetup a month or so ago, Sim's brother got on there, and he spoke about the Pitino thing after Sim tried the end of game dunk. An alleged sports writer Paul Snyder was taking Sim to task, unfairly I think. He claimed Sim was looking up into the stands all the time.

Sim's brother was all positive and spoke about the need to mature and the dunk was a learning experience, and he'd never do that again. Sounded like the Wilcher family love being close enough to watch all the games. He denied the allegation that Sim is looking to his family or an adviser from the court to follow directions contrary to Coach's (he called that solid B.S.).

All in all Sim's older brother made it sound like Sim is a Johnny.

[Watch he enters the portal tomorrow for all I know.]

Pitino wants both Sim and Brady back. They both love the school and coaching staff. Decision is theirs if they want to continue to fight and earn playing time or start fresh somewhere else.
They should come back. We as fans love them and believe in them. Sim started at year’s end and Brady started at year’s beginning. They are ballers. They’re not practice players. Coach knows this. It’s about the money. They might have to take a pay cut. That’s the issue. Not their ability or playing time.

Would like Sim and Brady back but would not lose any sleep over it if they both left.

Have to wonder if Rick and staff feel that Sim is behind schedule right now. He was clearly brought in to be a PG or at the very least a combo. Pitino wanted him in that role last year to take some of the burden off of Daniss but he clearly wasn't ready for that. Rick had to have Dingle and Alleyne bring the ball up when Daniss would sit.

With Kadary and Deivon in the fold this year there was no path for Sim to get mins at PG. Turned him into the full time starting 2 in hopes he would at least provide competent shooting and spacing on an otherwise shooting deficient team. He didn't.

The potential for Sim to be a very good player is there but what would be the focus for him this offseason? He didn't shoot it particularly well though the form is there. He never gets to the free throw line. He's not a playmaker or true PG. His defense is solid but he fouls too much and doesn't rebound.

Lots to improve on and I wouldn't count out Rick in transforming all of those aspects of him during this offseason. But easy to think that Rick was hoping he'd be ahead of where he is now by this point.

BSJ, hey after 40 years you must let me fantasize that Berry could have made a difference in that Semi Final game .

Walter was given pretty much free reign in 86 and only the Auburn guy, Person could stop him from scoring .

If I recall , I think Berry was in foul trouble against Chuck or, maybe was playing injured ?
Or both .

You made me think back to that 85 game , where Mullin scored like 8 points due to the box and I with David Wingate .

Lou , Mahoney , Rutledge should have tried to counter that Thompson strategy but , couldn’t

I agree though that G’Town was just a bad match up for us that year .

I always thought that Hoya team played dirty BB . Which Thompson was known for throughout his career .

That Georgetown, Dalton/Ewing/Graham team was dirty, back then the entire Big East was fairly physical bordering on dirty.

We held more than our own with every team in the league and in the country that year except Georgetown. We are national Champions if Ewing doesn't stand in our way.

Georgetown treated Mullin like a pinada, a human pin ball. I read at the time, Thompson told his team every time Mullin passes you go ahead and hip check, him, hit him, even knock him down, don't worry about fouls.

Sorry BJR , the fingers typed wrong . I think a lot of fans are too hard on Wilcher . He’s still gots lots of talent and potential to be better .

And , he wasn’t a featured player this year . KR , Zuby , Luis were . Which he might be next year.
He has a great shot technically and can only get better .

He’s not a player you give up on going into his 3 rd year .
