Sim and Brady (not SJU Portal Targets)

Bottom line is I’d love Sim back, he’s getting better every year and can absolutely become a killer. Right now he’s very good but not there yet, and our responsibility is to recruit guys that are who can challenge for the same spots. I don’t know if he relishes that role, but he will definitely get squeezed by talent this portal recruiting season.

At this point, to get better from our 31-5 season requires us to get better at every position we can. The two options are that Sim turns into that guy, competes against our big recruit or two at those spots or he portals. Love him. Great kid, attitude and getting better. He will be recruited over and it will mean he swims, sinks or leaves at the end of the day.

NIL allows him to get paid and continue to hone his trade under Pitino. It’s not as bad a gig as it used to be.

We all know peeps are going to transfer. I have zero issues with this. Right now my focus is on hopefully keeping Zuby, Wilcher, RJ and Prey. RJ will likely be the longer shot. I can see Dunlap probably transferring but love the kid and hope he stays just because he fits great on the team. I doubt it’s the role he wants though, which is ok.
I hope Brady stays. Remember that he was a starter. He’s filled out as well.
Last year he decimated Villanova at the Finn. He would have come good this year if not injured. He’s a future broadcaster too. I hope that the entire team comes back, except for the 3 ‘seniors’. I know that won’t happen. They are our team forever. So easy to root for.

We finished this season 31-5. A stone’s throw away from a national championship. It seems further but if we made one more round, it would have felt even closer. I too would love him back but I’m thinking our talent level likely gonna jump handily soon. Gonna be tough getting minutes moving forward. I want him to stay but he’d have to be ok with being a depth piece.

Stage 2 of the redfan post season therapy. Eat your own first day of the week following end of season

Stage 3 have heart attacks when guys enter portal

Stage 4 freak out if we don’t have full roster by end of April

Stage 5 your wife thinks you are having an affair with Someone named Trilly Donovan because you keep saying the name in your sleep. Multiple 1800-Flower deliveries

Stage 6 forget about stage 4 when we have full roster

Stage 7 practices begin

Changing title of other thread to something like "St. John's Portal Action" would have prevented against what will surely be five other new threads by April.

He's got great athleticism, quickness and great form on his jump shot. He looks like he should be a stud, but for whatever reason hasn't put it all together. Doesn't mean that he won't though.
I don't think anyone on this board was higher on Sim preseason than me. (Which means I was the wrongest person here!). I truly thought he was going to make a Zuby-like leap forward. The physical gifts just jump off the screen at you.

What I find absolutely baffling is the level of on court immaturity from a kid who is so well adjusted off the court and who has already played so much high level ball already. Last year I thought it was just Pitino throwing a lot at him and him doing more thinking than reacting. But this year...man. Stupid fouls. Whining after EVERY FOUL. Terrible decision making. Careless with the ball. Letting poor play effect his effort level. I don't care about the shooting, he's a good shooter and had a TON of balls rattle in and out early in the season. If a few of those go down I feel like it may have been a different situation. But overall..whew.

As Paultz and others have stated often, he needs to get in the gym and he needs to grow up (on court) quickly. Having him back w his head right would be great for continuity and culture in addition to what he could bring on the floor. If he's upset about competition being brought in he has no one to blame but himself. And he he can't handle that, then maybe he's not the guy you want.

If you’re a 6’3 guard and aren’t a plus facilitator, or even an average rebounder, you better be a big time scorer. To this point Sim has looked like a scorer vs the lightweight competition. Against quality comp he disappears far too often.

Think he’s got a few options. Comes back an improved player with increased strength and is a starter. Comes back the same player and he’s a “scorer” off the bench. Or decides another situation is best for him. At risk of sounding crass, I don’t think our offseason hinges much on it.

Interstingly enough I think Sim needs to improve most in his mental game. Too many times this year he misses his first shot and gets down and has trouble getting out of that funk. He hits a shot and he's a whole different player. We all see the potential and his ability to get an open shot and he has a smooth stroke. Just gotta put it all together now.
