Seton Hall (UBS), Sun., Feb. 18, 5p, FS-1

Didn’t see today’s game and respect your opinion. But the numbers were pretty striking and I’ve seen every game but today and we reach way too much.
Seton Hall got 37 free throw attempts, and that number was mostly justified.

We should have had a lot more than 13, and 2 of those were on the Holloway T.

Not every team we are playing can possibly be defending that well, every game. And Rick doesn't say anything to the refs about it. It would be nice if he did once in a while.

He's talking about the transfers. He wants players to play hard and smart.

Taylor was a bad signing. Dingle is a major disappointment. I'm sure he is super smart but his defense is atrocious. Ledlum is a tireless player who doesn’t have the offensive tools. Luis is the most naturally gifted player but is not "super smart" playing the game.
Jenkins is a good player who feels he needs to provide the offense because the other players are slow to get open.

Seton Hall won on pressure defense that our slow players could not get position and were pressed into bad shots the entire second half.

Soriano should have a focus down low but never got into position for passes.

Finally, the use of Brady was LSD mind bending. Substitutions and their timing is also on Pitino.

I won't be surprised if in the next game Wilcher starts over Dingle. How much worse can he be at this point.
Luis can't shoot, he can't dribble, he can't pass, he can't defend, he's completely reckless on his drives to the hoop and he plays uninspired ball. So please tell me, what it is exactly that he naturally gifted at?

No, but they got just about every call after that. Don’t get me wrong, they attacled, we didn’t and a foul discrepancy was inevitabe. But, they absolutely got a favorable whistle from that point forward.

That said, we lost and deserved to.
A lot of "anticipation" fouls called on our guys. Especially Joel and Zuby, which I think is part of the reason they have gotten soft defensively. Well, Soriano always was, but Zuby has been tentative too, the past few games.

Forget about the offense, all we had to do is play lockdown defense in the second half of these games and we win half of them. Thats just a total lack of effort! Disgusting!! Pitino has to take the hit for not getting these kids to at least give defensive effort for 40 minutes.
He exhausts his own team with his press and we fall apart after 15 minutes.

Sorry most of these guys aren't 'students', they are paid professionals. Shitty to get called out, but can't use the "student Athlete" cover any longer when some of these guys are almost mid 20's...
I agree with you to some degree Money. These kids wanted to get paid, and I don’t have an issue with them getting the money but they are no longer student athletes then. These kids took the money, now go out and play your ass off and earn it. If you don’t then this is what happens. This is the real world. If they were working at regular jobs and performing like this they would have all been fired except for Jenkins. You can’t have it both ways, you can’t want to be paid like pro’s, like adults and still be treated like kids. These players and Pitino have all failed miserably at their jobs.

Im in agreement with the basic proposition. But I’m not sure what’s to gain. It’s brutal.

Plus everyone has figured out how to beat Pitino's vaunted press. Pass it to the guy RJ Luis or Sean Conway is guarding dribble passed them the length of the court. lay the ball up. If you can't lay the ball up, dribble into Zuby or Soriano and hopefully you get a foul.

Now most coaches would think, maybe we shouldn't press all the time with the roster we have. Let's do our best to accentuate our players positives and hide their short comings. But CRP knows better than anyone that his system works 100% of the time. Damn the torpedoes men, lets keep banging our head against the wall!

You rarely see a coach trash his own team like this. Awful awful look (even though that is all true lol)

I hope Joel just comes out and says: "Our problem at St. John's was we hired a coach that was too old, too out of touch with todays game, and too egotistical to win in NYC. It may have been easier at Louisville when you had to illegally funnel money and prostitutes to kids to get recruits, but today there is a level playing field and Rick is just finding that too difficult to compete with. Also, why does he keep calling plays that have me OUTSIDE the three point line?"

Exactly just cause they get paid now doesn’t make it right to put your players down in the media. Pro coaches don’t do that no free agents would ever sign to play for them. I don’t think any good comes out of trashing the players don’t like it one bit. He’s saying things in these press conferences like fans on a message board.

He kept using the word tough in his press conference (which I watched, in the edited redstormsports.com version - I do think it came across a bit more as "my fault for getting these players" when you watch it, but he still could have done better). In the basketball sense, I have never understood what tough meant.

Does it mean get down the court quicker? Does it mean play harder on defense? Does it mean dive for more loose balls? Tough is too general of a term, IMO.

If you are good enough to get to these leads I don’t want to hear about why we aren’t good enough. Blame goes all around but if we never had the lead in these games I’d probably feel a lot less anger
That’s exactly why Pitino’s lack of self accountability is driving me nuts. We were leading in each of the last four games at half time — including the #1 and #4 team in the country! No one would say we have better talent, but for him to degrade the roster as slow and soft just means he doesn’t want to admit maybe there’s other non-player reasons this hasn’t worked out

Just a disaster.

Like to say there is always next year but I have little faith in our recruiting class and returning "foundation." Dunlap seems to have lost his shot, Wilcher doesn't play as a top 30 recruit, and we have three other players in cruz, ayo and drissa (who seems like a great kid) that really aren't big east caliber players.

I've been a huge fan of Taylor but I don't know what to make of his offense and RJ is a complete loose cannon on both sides of the ball. I love Zuby on defense but he can't seem to get an offensive game together.

If that is our returning core I'm not sure how much better next year will be. Especially with 2 of our recruits probably needing at least a year or two to be even serviceable big east players.

We thought we hit homeruns in the portal last year. We need to do 1000 times better than that next year. And maybe a lot of the guys above depart but that just means another complete rebuild, which is also disheartening.
