Rick pitino should not be sounding like a poster on red.fans. He’s somehow made me more disappointed in the press conference than the actual game. Totally disgraceful.
I am in favor of the “professionalization” of college basketball, but you should not be treating players (let alone students — many of which are still in their late teens!) like this in the media spotlight.
The scary thing to me is that this has been a theme every single press conference. He has almost never held himself accountable. He’s always blamed the players, both generally and singling them out. If he wasn’t in the hall of fame, we would simply call him a bully. He’s killed the confidence and vibe of this team, and he should be held most accountable for this seasons outcome.

Outside of Jenkins who basically played same role minus Clayton and Zuby who didn’t play at Kansas every player on roster played worse than they ever had in their career
Forget about the offense, all we had to do is play lockdown defense in the second half of these games and we win half of them. Thats just a total lack of effort! Disgusting!! Pitino has to take the hit for not getting these kids to at least give defensive effort for 40 minutes.

Not a chance! Recruits love when you run a team of tough players with "character issues" out the door. Then when you recruit all your own guys, they love when you call them "weak" with no "lateral movement". Now we know next year only tough players with good character and strong lateral movement will play for St. John's! All you grade school coaches are worried while HALL OF FAMER RICK PITINO is playing 3D Chess! Don't forget he's one 1 NCAA tournament game in the last 14 years!

A successful but arrogant coach takes a new job and fires/discourages/does not try to keep/ virtually the whole team. But the players he brings in are inferior to the ones who leave. Isn’t it really that simple?
Respectfully, some of you are softer than baby shit. Personally I LOVE THIS. The players you ultimately want will stay and work harder.

Completely agree and I have lost a ton of respect for Pitino. Would be fitting if some of these kids he’s trashing gave their own feedback to Zach. Anyone who thinks these kind of quotes are the mark of a strong leader thinks a lot differently than I do. Try to imagine Louie or Lapchick saying anything close to this.
if a couple of those 5th year seniors belonged in the big east rick would have had easier job putting together a team. If we had more youngsters added to the ones we have and got to see coach em up I would have loved to see that.
I wonder how many of these student athletes would choose St John’s and this coach again given the choice.
I was a big time Pitino fan and gave him a buy for lying to Iona, but these presser’s are all about him - and his ego is out of control. Great leaders stand by the troops in tough times. If they are good enough to win 20 minutes - they could win for 40 with proper leadership.
If no player can move and are slow why do you have an Ineffective press and play man to man defense. You know you lead D1 in fouls and you still press.

Being exiled really set him back and he came back and was only marginal at Iona. I am only feel on picking at him since he does that to his players and his team is so fundamentally flawed.

I said it half time…they will attack us and we will foul and this lead will dissipate. You could see it coming starting at the 16 minute mark of the 1st half. It’s like the Hallmark Channel - different movie but same plot and ending.
For the life of me, I don’t understand why Soriano played what seemed like 90% of 2nd half 20 feet from basket. There is zero upside - he doesn’t set good screens and isn’t agile enough to play pick and roll game. All it did was bring their center out who is very good at hedging and driving our offense further from the basket. I just cant believe how poor our offense is once the opposition gets serious.

Its bee a long time since SJ fans booed the team - and it happened twice tonight.
The end of the first half's have been as big of a problem as second half's.
Marquette home, up 10 with about 2 minutes to go, down to six at half.
Marquette away, up 15 with about 90 seconds to go, down to nine at half.
Today up 19 late, down to 12 at half.
So in some of these games, while we're up at the half, we don't go into the locker room with momentum.
No, but they got just about every call after that. Don’t get me wrong, they attacled, we didn’t and a foul discrepancy was inevitabe. But, they absolutely got a favorable whistle from that point forward.
That said, we lost and deserved to.

You are living in a bygone world. Today’s kids all have big egos from being told how good they are by everyone around them. If you think you can tell a kid he’s no good and expect that he will rise to the occasion to prove you wrong, you’ve watched to many “Rudy” movies.
Damn good movie!
Didn’t see today’s game and respect your opinion. But the numbers were pretty striking and I’ve seen every game but today and we reach way too much.
