@Seton Hall, Tue., Jan. 16, 8:30p, FS-1

I'll begin by saying I haven't read any of the foregoing posts in this thread. (I watch games on delay and turned it off at 70-52.) For starters, if you can't put the ball in the basket (SJ dropped one out of its first eleven shots, and later in the game went 37 minutes without scoring a bucket), fuggedaboudit. If I had a few bucks for every time someone here posted, feed JS in the paint, I'd be able to buy dinner for four at one of my favorite Philly restaurants. But when Soriano sits at the top of the key for half the game, game after game, and occasionally rolls to the basket, there ain't many opprtunites to feed him in the paint. Then, when he finally spends some time in the low post, he's not ready for the double team thrown at him. I can't say the kids didn't play with energy tonight...they did. But they didn't play smart, were sloppy with the ball, and I think it's time we stop thinking of Luis as the second coming of someone, anyone. He's a good-looking prospect but the jury is still out. Way out, IMO. Will someone on the coaching staff please show Dunlap how to throw a fake? I like the kid, but he's looking more and more like a one trick pony...catch and shoot, rinse and repeat. I'll admit, this may have been an easier pill for me to swallow had I not narrowly dodged a heart attack during the game with Creighton, and then sat through the dismantling last night of my Philly Eagles, a team that started the season 10-1. The sports gods are aligned against all the teams I care about. Phillies pitchers and catchers report for sping training in a few weeks, and I shudder to think. It's not easy, being a recovering New Yorker.
I don’t even have to ask Kranmars. Slyfox will break this up into paragraphs for the mentally challenged like myself

What an aweful game. Worst team has played all year. Clear how much coach means to this team now. Seemed lost from the start. I think because if coach and dingle missing, team can just put this in the rear view and focus ahead.

You have nights when the shots aren’t falling and the bounces don’t go your way. It happens. Biggest issue I have is the effort was just not there. Team looked timid with the ball. Masiello had no answers or adjustments to make and most of the squad was just not going after it.

As great as Joel has become, he’s showing to be more and more of a liability on defense. He has got to focus on improving that part of his game, or the coaching need to switch the D so he’s not coming out of the key.

Zuby was a bright spot tonight. Really moves his feet on defense and offense is improving.

Taylor was decent but has become so timid offensively. Where’d his shot go?

Brady was a no show tonight.

Aleyne just had a very poor game. He’ll bounce back. Needs to practice getting to the basket, too many jumpers.

Wilcher looks like he’s doing a walk through every time he plays. Can somebody please wake him the hell up and tell him he’s playing in the big east? Play like you give a shit. Lazy passes, lazy handling, 0 willingness to go 1x1. Where’s the fire?
Alleyne can’t get to the basket. He’s almost completely reliant on a good PG to set him up. We don’t have that.

I don’t like him shooting off more than one dribble. Low % shot.

The rebounding differential was shockingly bad. Three starting Seton Hall Guards Richmond, Adae-Wusu and Davis combined for 25 rebounds and our entire starting lineup grabbed a grand total of 11 rebounds. That is 19 rebounds below their per game average total.

The lack of rebounding tonight speaks to energy, effort and technique IMHO. The Hall wanted it more than us and we just laid an egg and were flat. I would have to believe that Rick will not let this pass without getting after the team about this.

On a separate note looking at the Box Score a couple of odd statistical facts about tonight's game that I never would have guessed based on my watching it:
1) We shot a better percentage from the floor than the Hall did (41% to 39.7%).
2) We outscored them from the floor 57 to 54 but lost badly because we were outscored from the line 26 to 8.

I think it helps when the game is over early. We got absolutely ran out of of the gym. When we were down 28 it didn’t even feel that close.

Their guards are just way better. Once Alleyne checked out with 2 fouls the game was over. He’s a 5th year senior…let the kid play! He finished with three fouls too 😂
I'm with you in theory on letting guys play w 2 fouls, but Alleyne was playing like dogshit when he sat down.

His defense is his strength. He's excellent on that end of the floor. His offense has been the issue but that is rapidly improving
His problem is fouling while playing hard nosed defense. Had Pitino brought Jr Joseph with him, Zuby would have been used as a power forward but Pitino needed to keep Joel.

I’m not going to bother reading this thread. It was a horrible game from tip. Pitino is clearly our MVP. Anytime he isn’t coaching, we will be at a disadvantage.

The only thing I will add is this pic:

It was a 20+ game in second half at this point. Traore was the one guy still engaged on the bench, cheering on his teammates and bringing energy. He is vital to this teams culture and I hope he’s here for the rest of his college career.

Maybe so, but everyone else was playing like dog shit. Why single out Alleyne? I still like his mid-range jumper, and every so often he takes it to the hoop.

Agree about Traore, but if the kid doesn't get more minutes he may not be here next year.

Clearly came out flat but even when brought it back in first half. Then Hall ended up making back to back 3's before the half and then after the breat they made three more 3's in a row within 3 min.

Brutal.

Khadary abused him.
I don’t know if I would classify it that way. Richmond had 12 pts. Wusu had 16 and Dawes had 21.

It certainly wasn’t a good game for Alleyne. I’d agree to that.

I obviously knew Wusu would be a problem, but I didn’t realize Dawes was that good. And they are very well coached. Shaheen is a beast.

I’m not as bothered by this game as much as Creighton to be honest. I knew we had 1-2 of these left.
I take a different view. I love the way we played Creighton right down to the wire. It was nerve-wracking, to be sure, but we played a good and previously ranked team in a hostile environment. Tonight's beat down was a real bummer and leaves me wondering...where do we go from here?
