Seton Hall, Sat. Feb. 11, 12 Noon, CBS SN/SiriusXM

Does anybody have any idea who the big kid in the grey jacket and cap is? Matt was talking to him before the game and at one point DWill and Marcus came over and gave him a bro hug.

Owens!!!!

The whole frontline played well: KY, Bash and Amar all contributed. It was a team effort from those four guys.

True, but not to be negative, Yakwe is a horrible rebounder.

Sometimes you need a guy who can box out and free up other guys to board. I'm not saying KY is particularly great at this but he played tough today and did the dirty work on Delgado when he was in there. I'll take it.

28 minutes, 3 rebounds, not acceptable for a BE PF IMO, boxing out or not. Oh well, on to Butler.

I know, I know. Don't get too excited after a win and don't get too down after a loss.

But that was the most well prepared a St. John's team has looked in some time

Not to be negative II, but he does not have a big body, instincts or good hands. The combo does not add up to a good rebounder. Having said that, he played his 2nd best game of the year today IMO. If we can fill his starting roll with a solid PF next year, as we discussed, we will be a very very good team.

Cuse game?

If Yakwe leaves, it really needs to be to go super low major, if not D2. He'll eventually play pro somewhere in the world (the world is a big place), so he may as well have fun grabbing 10 boards and blocking 7 shots a game at CW Post in the meantime.

Would love for him to stay and improve, but don't see him as much more than a short backup center next season.

We are #83 in Kenpom. We have a real shot at the NIT. Amazing, nobody expected that two months ago.

Season is already a big success, but NIT would make it a slam dunk.

Very important that we finish strong and not just for post season invite reasons. We need to go in to next year feeling good about ourselves and we need recruits to feel good about the direction of our program.
Exactly. Nice that the kids reap the rewards of their hard work, builds confidence. Recruits aren't looking for us to be BE contenders, but have to get a sense that Mullin can coach, develop players, and we are on an upward trajectory.

I put this over it because we had a clear weakness coming into this game and a clear matchup nightmare to worry about (Delgado). Delgado had to go through 40 minutes of hell out there. He never got comfortable that entire game cause we didn't let him. Loved it

Got home about an hour and a half ago. Very satisfying time at the Garden. Looks like Providence is going to beat Butler, which I was not rooting for. The Bulldogs will come out fighting on Wednesday night.

But the overall good news is we are officially tied for fifth place in the Big East. What a difference from last year at this time.

Can't agree more... Being 6'7+ in the paint for 30 minutes, you should by accident get 5 rebounds without even trying.. I don't get it...

This is killing me. Have the directv guy here fixing my dish and missed the first half. Was watching the play by play on the CBS game tracker. Stepped away for a few minutes and suddenly were up by 10!!! Nice!!!!
Wha happined to ur dish? Was at game, great to beat local rival. Would be great to finish season ahead of Hall and better than Rutgers to help local recruiting.
Hope we had some croots at this game.

I actually think Yakwe could eventually be a pleasant surprise. Never going to be a good rebounder, but if he gets some stickier hands on the pick and roll and finishes, he could be a quality bench contributor over the next two years. I like the kid, hope he stays.

Maybe the best defensive effort of the season today. Mullin cannot sit Lovett at the start of games, even if he is going for a bigger lineup up front. He's the most complete player we have. That could have backfired early. Sit Ellison.

We in section 114 assumed it was a disciplinary matter. Don't really know any more. Don't like the move regardless of what it is, but hard to argue with the results. A case of end justifying mean.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that Ellison had 3 early fouls and had to sit
When we started playing better without him, there was no point of putting him in
A very good coaching decision

Because, in a perfect world, he'd be a stretch 3, who wouldn't have to bang it inside too much.

I thought he did a great job keeping the ball out of Delgado's hands today.

Agree on Ellison, although I was talking about Lovett being the disciplinary matter.

Agree. As Nick Bardo said on a recent broadcast(I'm paraphrasing): " when the big men didn't finish the pick and roll the first time, I was reluctant to give it to them the next time". You could see the hesitation on Yakwe's part to roll, and on Lovett's part to dish. If they can get that thing working, it would be a wonderful thing for our team.

In the postgame, Mullin said that Ellison's thumb was bothering him, but also mentioned the foul trouble, and the unit on the court playing well.
