Selection Sunday

Player availability (games missed by Heron and Ponds), along with our Q1 wins got us in per Kevin White (Duke's AD) on CBS Sports Network.

Bracket Matrix has updated again. We are now tied with Temple as the last two teams in. NC State still first team out.

Us and Temple: 96/134 brackets
NC State: 58/134 brackets

Keep in mind too, a lot of teams ahead of us like Ohio St, Arizona St, TCU, Florida, etc aren't on 134/134 brackets.
My fear is the committee is going to reward Belmont and/or UNC Greensboro. What are your thoughts on that?
I actually do think one of the two gets in (not both), however I don't think it'll be at our expense.
Nailed it lol. When Belmont got in I got a little nervous, but much rather would've seen them than UNCG. UNCG was 2-6 in Q1 games while Belmont was 2-2.

Arizona State has a lot of size which worries me.

Zylan Cheatham is 6'8.
Kimani Lawrence is 6'7.
Romello White is 6'8.
Taeshon Cherry is 6'8.
De'Quon Lake is 6'10.

So that's FIVE of their eight regular rotation players.
Looking at the stats, I’m not gonna pretend i know this team, their best scorers are all their guards.
Lake averages 13 and 3 fouls per game. Cherry is more of a SF and doesn’t rebound well statistically. All things considered we have to love that their biggest front court starters are 6’8 220 and 6’8 235. That’s a hell of a lot better than 6’11 240 Hankins and 6’9 250 Jones with a 6’7 220 Marshall.

Also bodes well that their leading scorer couldn’t be more in Simon’s wheelhouse size wise. Buffalo and Texas Tech too.
Prediction: Earlington helps us win a tourney game and immediately entered the top 300 players in program history.
I want them to win long enough to play texas tech and Tariq Owen's and then beat him and his hot shot team

This team seems to play better when they're fired up by some slight like payback for the Seton Hall loss. Maybe they can get motivated to prove to the world they're better than last team in and win at least the play-in game if not a couple! The match ups certainly make the first couple winnable. And if they can get on a little roll ... hey, its fun to dream.

Well we made it. For those who forgot we played ASU last season at their place. We were down most of the game but were within one at 71-70 with 2:30 left when they went on an 11-0 run to close out an 82 to 70 victory (see box score below). When we played them they were undefeated 8 and 0 and beat number 2 Kansas in their following game on their way to being highly nationally ranked. Four of our current players played against them (Ponds, Clark, Simon and Trimble). Most of their players in that game are not part of their team now but forward Romello White and current second leading scorer Guard Remy Martin did play.

Their leading scorer this season is Canadian Freshman Luguentz Dort who averages 16.1 PPG. I have a clear memory of our great poster Redmannorth Strongly urging us to recruit him but that did not happen. This is a winnable game on paper and like everything with this team if we play at our best we have a good shot here.

I know seeding 68 teams and avoiding conferences is difficult but another one is Mich St. as a #2 AND being in the bracket of the overall #1. To me that says they were the lowest #2. But that can't be either. Maybe there is some further reason but another suspect one to me

Neutral site game not @ASU

As the very last team to get an invite we’re in an ideal position to become Cinderella this year if we can keep focused for three games in a row.

I never want to hear the term "lock" again. We were a "lock" when we knocked off Nova. We were a "lock" when we crushed SH. We were a "lock" when we beat DePaul. None of it was true. How they ended played a much bigger role in how we looked on the resume.

Yeah they made it but...

Totally agree. And to be clear the 13 for Lake is minutes! So they're deeper than us but its not really a matchup problem like our bad losses were. We just have to play well to win.
Since it's the play in game, is this actually an ncaa tourny game?
Would a win snap the streak of 17 years without an ncaa win?
Yes...officially in.

Yes, all Dayton games are First Round.
Weekend games are 2nd and 3rd Round

Yes you are correct, I forgot that. It was all the way out west at the Staples Center so to me I guess it felt like we were playing an away game. I remember we had a chance to finally take the lead late and someone (maybe Simon) had a bad turnover and they went on to score the last eleven points.
