Selection Sunday

Really thrilled to make it, especially as the last team in.

We knew days ago that Dayton was the best case scenario. EVERY SINGLE GAME MATTERED! If one game yesterday didn't go our way, we'd be out.

Can't wait until Wednesday!

Zylan Cheatham is 6'8.
Kimani Lawrence is 6'7.
Romello White is 6'8.
Taeshon Cherry is 6'8.
De'Quon Lake is 6'10.

So that's FIVE of their eight regular rotation players.
Looking at the stats, I’m not gonna pretend i know this team, their best scorers are all their guards.
Lake averages 13 and 3 fouls per game. Cherry is more of a SF and doesn’t rebound well statistically. All things considered we have to love that their biggest front court starters are 6’8 220 and 6’8 235. That’s a hell of a lot better than 6’11 240 Hankins and 6’9 250 Jones with a 6’7 220 Marshall.

Also bodes well that their leading scorer couldn’t be more in Simon’s wheelhouse size wise. Buffalo and Texas Tech too.
Totally agree. And to be clear the 13 for Lake is minutes! So they're deeper than us but its not really a matchup problem like our bad losses were. We just have to play well to win.
They're in the top 40 nationally when it comes to offensive caroms. So, we better buckle down and minimize second chance opportunities.
The NCAA is evil. They love juicy matchups.
They deny it too, which is ridiculous.

If we can't get up for this game, then that will tell us a ton about this team. I expect them to play like they did against DePaul. If we can get to Buffalo I think we have at least a chance albeit less than ASU obviously.

If anyone's way overdue to go on a red-hot run, it's us. Can't play any worse, hopefully we got all our worst performances out of the way. The key will be Ponds playing his ass off like his life depends on it.

Glad to make it...even though we should have been way better, we now have a chance. We are going to be seen by millions filling out brackets. We haven't won in 20 yrs...I wouldn't want to be ASU.

Michigan St wins the Big 10 regular season and Tourney title. They beat Michigan 3x.

OK so you still don't think they are worthy of a 1 seed. But you give them a 2 seed with the highest 1 seed Duke, so if you use S curve that means you think they are the Worst 2 seed below even Michigan. Then you put a 10 seed Minnesota and 6 seed Maryland in their bracket, 2 conference teams.

lol
I don't have a problem with that, see 2009 Big East-Louisville, UCONN and Pitt.

Nice to see the sit out transfers getting excited as well

We could have had a much tougher draw, but let's not kid ourselves........

Arizona State averages 39.97 Rebounds Per Game (15th in the Nation)

Buffalo averages 41.27 Rebounds Per Game (3rd in the Nation)

St. John's averages 32.55 Rebounds Per Game (306th in the Nation)

Our only real chance of winning any game or 2 games are:

1. Must shoot well

2. Must have Ponds takeover and lead the way

No more Mr. Assist king...we need Ponds scoring from beginning to end dominating games. We need to be driving regardless of if we're hot shooting, but especially if we realize we are cold that day. We also need to act like this is an NCAA tourney game...because it is. Been 20 years since we won one of these so it's there for the taking if we want it that bad.

Since it's the play in game, is this actually an ncaa tourny game?
Would a win snap the streak of 17 years without an ncaa win?
Yes, all Dayton games are First Round.
Weekend games are 2nd and 3rd Round
Correction, as of 2016:
Previously, the Round of 64 was known as the Second Round since the 2011 edition, but it was reverted to the moniker First Round for this coming tournament. The First Four was previously named the First Round.

In 2011 Gonzaga game was officially a second round, same in 2015 for the San Diego State game.
But the answer to your initial question is still yes.
