Season Tickets

I am not chasing anyone down to figure out how to make a donation. My television awaits.

memo to school. when caller id shows mjmaherjr calling tomorrow answer the phone because its 6 tickets and I dont have time for tracking anyone down

Melissa has always been very responsive. When she took over for Dennis, she was his assistant but was not given an assistant due to budget freezes. To my knowledge she relies on interns and student workers. Unfortunately, everyone takes summer vacation. And for ticket renewals this is crunch time.

Over the years, Dennis would often call me when I didn't renew, telling me he was holding my tix past the deadline because he knew I was renewing.

A few years ago at the garden Melissa came downstairs when I had an unreadable ticket and resolved it at the counter.

I know Paul Sclafani through his job, and he is a terrific, hard working, responsive asset.

I really appreciate Cragg being responsive in these issues but he shouldn't have to.

I would just say to anyone, without defending the inexcusable of non-response, to get to know these people. They all go over and beyond to help alums and fans, and are part of what makes SJU special. Guessing this is just poor timing in terms of thin staff and vacations at a very busy time.

I called the ticket office yesterday because the "add to cart" button could not be clicked. The guy from the ticket office said that you need to click on the drop down where it says Donor Information and "Who's the donation for?" before you can put in your contribution and click on "add to cart"

Btw, they have a payment plan where you can divide your contribution in 10 payments.

I hope this helps.

Dennis was great and held my tickets when I was late. Always responsive as has Melissa been with me in the past whenever I called.

There use to be another woman there (Tara?) but I don’t know if she is still there or not.

My response from Sclafani - "not my job" And he was listed as the contact. But instead of dealing with the issue he told ME to contact Melissa. So I know him now too and my opinion differs greatly.

I understand that St. John's may not have the resources to get this new process done efficiently and I am sure that everyone has a role they are not used to. Cragg has never had to complete his job with so few resources and the staff are not used to having an AD that expects a full staff.

That being said it is extremely frustrating when at least in my case that I had to e-mail the school to initiate the season ticket process because last year they almost forgot about me. On July 30th I e-mailed redstormsports@st.john's.edu before I knew about the new ticket policy to ask what I need to do to renew my seats. I was told that I would get an e-mail on August 5th letting me know what I would need to do. After checking my spam filter on the 6th I e-mailed the school to let them know that I did not receive the e-mail. I had included my account number to make it easier for them. They said if I didn't receive it then they would resend it. A couple of hours later the e-mail was forwarded to me and it said I could call 718-990-6211 or e-mail them if I have any questions. On the 19th I logged into my Johhnies Ticket Account and was completely confused as to what to do. I am shocked that the school didn't at least provide instructions to make this easier. For now I am doing nothing and if someone calls me I will deal with it then. If not I will use the money for something else.

I did not go to St. John's but I really do love the school. It has provided tremendous opportunities for so many people that I know but that does not make this easier. When I donate $500 to my alma mater's basketball program(low end Division 1 program), I get an e-mail from the coach and a personalized note from the AD. In my opinion this sloppiness starts with the President of the University.

The head of ticketing at SJU taking off the week renewals are due is the equivalent of an NFL employee taking off the week of the Super Bowl

This university/program definitely still is a minor league operation. I know about 5 different groups of people from my (old) section and around the section who aren't renewing alone. I can't imagine the mass amounts of people not renewing overall. No one I know has even received a phone call asking them to renew.

As someone else said in this thread the fact that they are sitting back and just letting so many season ticket holders walk away is mind boggling. Hope they have fun playing in front of half empty crowds full of the other team's fans next season.

Melissa is super nice. That being said and not her fault but no how matter how much we all like Cragg no matter what when season tickets are your revenue source you absolutely make fucking sure your phones are manned when tix are due. I dont care if it's interns or students manning the phones when you call to renew you should never get a freaking answering machine. This is the equivalent of me not just not being in the office the last week of the year when clients need to finish their tax loss selling and RMD's but even worse my assistant not bieng in and my clients getting an answering machine.

Absolutely no excuse for not having phones fully staffed. No-one else to blame than who runs the entire athletic dept. I dont blame anyone else

Someone from the school called me back this morning as I was driving to work so I gotta be fair and say at least they called me back the next morning

It’s been ten days and no one has called me back. Congratulations, consider yourself special.

They updated the season ticket site and I chose to pay my contribution over 10 months. Does anyone know when I get my season ticket invoice?

It should be in the mail in the next two weeks.

I’m officially out. The school feels that increasing ticket prices substantially is a good business decision, and I feel that paying a lot more for what has been a consistently inferior product would be a bad business decision. So I pass.

Needs to be noted that anyone giving up season tickets shouldn't be labeled as less of a fan. Season tickets are a problem across all sports. The days of people blindly handing you money up front to be part of this 'club' are fading and fading fast. Why go to all the games when there is a comfy couch and big screen at home. Why go to a game where on top of the ticket its X to park and X for a watered down beer and X for whatever else you buy or your significant other or the kids.

Teams need to be creative in ways to get the most money out of their fans and the traditional season ticket model isn't it. And if the model is too rigid to change then they offer other amenities (like Atlanta Falcons and ATL United concession pricing).

It's not personal. It's just business.

Realizing the college sports, and higher education, is just a business is a cold reality.

There is a consumer product, Big East basketball, and you make a decision as to whether it's worth it or not.

I had a 30 game Mets season ticket plan at Shea. When they moved to Citi, same location tix quadrupled. I bought an outfield location for 1 season, then dropped.

Looking at the prices other schools charge, these new prices don't seem out of line. Certainly understand anyone who chooses not to renew. Some strong fans on here dropped years ago, yet still follow the program.

For me, I've met many of you, and look forward to running into you at games and events. It brings value added, although it may be a mistake not to phase in the increases more slowly.

I was tempted to renew....”for ole’ time sake”, but then I decided “can’t do it”. Ticket prices may be in line with what other schools charge, but few other fan bases have had to endure what we have over the past 20 years. And the timing of the of increase is horrible. But I assume they saw the buzz that the CMA hire generated and figured “let’s strike while the iron is hot”. My guess is that at the end of the day, enough fans will renew to make the increase a good business decision for the school.
