Season Tickets

I was there as well and I concur with that review. One interesting thing to note about the arena: there is no scoreboard having from the ceiling anymore but it looks like the end zone scoreboards are gigantic. Arena looks more open without that thing hanging down.[/quote] hmmm interesting. That less electricity would probably bring the upper tier down from 130 degrees to 120. That’s progress

Hey boys, longtime lurker and longer time season ticket holder.
Appreciate everyone’s contributions over the years. Especially the recruiting insight from Paultz, Happy, etc.. It’s a great website and I’m super thankful for all Paul and the mods have done. Hahaha, even LINY/Mike Zaun has grown on me.
Does anyone else feel like this increase is an ambush?
I understand the school needs money and I’m assuming we’re all willing to support a price increase.
Maher says his increase is 40% (Holla on Maher. Also have the Peruvian lady friend).
But, my increase goes from $700/ticket to $1200/ticket. I have 8 tickets. With less than a month to pay.
I love giving away $4000 as much as the next guy, but I mean come on already.
Maybe a few months notice, or maybe a payment plan, or even an upfront PSL or something? Anything would have been better than this.
The jerk I am will probably renew. But this nonsense is straight up disrespectful. Not to mention the quality of product for sale.
I’m all on board for Cragg and Mike Anderson and the 15 wins next year. I am. Totally. I’m a sucker like everyone else. But this rollout really was a gigantic failure.

Sometimes SJU can't help stepping on his Johnson.

The only part of this program that's not mid-major are the ticket prices. High major prices does not turn a mid major into something elite. Prices should have been cut to Fordham/Hofstra levels until the school earned an increase.

Fordham and Hofstra don't have to pay off as many failed coaching hires.

19 home games this year. The problem is when you just take the total cost and divide it by the 19 you get a number. But that number isn't truly an average since CA games should be priced less than the are and MSG is naturally more and likely too much because of the absurd rent the Garden has charged ever since the renovation. I think the new break even is like 14k seats. Under the old Garden it was like 8-9k.

I haven't had tickets in a few years. I think after Mullin's first year I dropped them. Was considering them this year. The more you look at it, I just don't see it making sense.

I just disagree with the strategy. Obviously the athletic department needs to generate more income to achieve some exciting goals. That said, I think it would be more effective to increase demand before boosting ticket prices.

We should be looking to get as many young fans in the seats as possible. We really do need to cultivate the next generation. The steep prices will undoubtedly exclude some, compromising the full opportunity to grow the base.

Now, if you win big, you can do whatever you want. But, we're clearly not there yet. This could be one of a few "this is not Duke" reminders for Cragg.

Living in North Carolina, season tickets prices are not an issue for me. Having said that, I agree that raising prices by 40% (or whatever it comes out to) seems ill conceived and ill timed. While we made the tourney last year, it's not a stretch to say season was somewhat disappointing and this coming season will bring excitement with excellent new staff but not likely an NCAA tourney finish. It would have made more sense to increase season tickets by 10% this year and next and maybe if we win and make tourney in 2020-2021 season implement a bigger increase for 2021 season.
I suspect there will be a fair number of local die hard Johnny fans who will decide to watch some of the games they always attended in person from their home arenas this season. We'll see.

Not defending the admin but they didn’t ‘raise’ prices. They just added games and therefore higher costs.

The problem is now between the baselines will be sparse and or filled with opposing fans and behind the basket and wings will have more fans.

Many will disagree here too but SJU set this precedence IMO with Storm Saver. Someone on the other side of an aisle was paying less than someone and that seemed a little odd to me. Pay more to sit in front sure. Pay more to sit on a lower level sure. But I never understood that idea and it’s going to be more of that now since the lowest PSL or no PSL is in the Storm Saver area.

Not a fan of these increases. Hopefully they have some good data showing that this is the right move and we don't see increases for another couple years. I personally am not that excited for this year because unlike the past couple I don't expect to make the NCAA Tournament. Seems like a bad time to do this.

My guess is they had to increase prices, and this year would likely be a much better year to do it than next year. Otherwise they won't really have a chance until 3 or 4 years from now when we're in contention again. At least this year we'll have Heron, LJ and a new coaching staff.

It took me a while to sort through all of this as I had some other things to attend to. I have had what they are now calling tickets in the “Gold” level for the past three seasons. Last season I paid $668 a ticket to sit in Row 18 in Section 107 and Row H in Section 10(aisle seats which in CA are premium). I would have been ok with the increase to $930 a ticket for the additional two Garden games and I think an additional CA game. This is still a substantial increase but I enjoy the games that I go to and understand costs go up if you want to run an improved Athletic Department. The additional $250 a ticket with such short notice is something that is really putting me on the fence.

The last two seasons I have had to initiate contact with the school to renew my season tickets. Last week I had to trade several e-mails with the school to obtain the information on the season ticket increases. Is this additional $500 going to make the ticket process more efficient for me? I am not sure how many “Gold” ticket holders there are but the school shouldn’t lose track of any. I have a twenty game plan with the Mets and at least I get a phone call to renew.

To pay something equivalent to what I did last year I would have to choose the “ Bronze Level” which for the Garden games is fine but I imagine that my CA seats would bring me closer to the ceiling.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent. I was having trouble sleeping tonight.

I believe (although I could be wrong) it's been established that your Carnesecca Arena seats are not affected by your donation (unless you upgrade). The donation affects only MSG seating, so Bronze level may work for you.

I look at the "contribution" component of the season tickets as part of what I already contribute to SJU which I will now adjust to reflect the amount paid with the tickets. As wife and I are alumni, we always think about what our degrees contribute to our work careers plus the any scholarship moneys received which we feel are being paid back. Now if Congress would restore deduction for charitable contributions, it would be better.

That is a fair point and while I am not an alum I don’t
mind donating some money to the school. I think the $200 for Bronze is more then generous given obligations I have to other charities as well. I went to Binghamton and if I donate $500 to the basketball team, I get an e-mail from the coach and a note from the AD.

Restore Charitable deductions?

Sorry--Change in standard deductions is really what I was referring to which has cut charitable deductions through out the country as there were changes in what could be itemized.

May be wrong, but didn’t get impression that CA tickets impact price...don’t think they will change if you change your MSG package
