Season Tickets
I look at the "contribution" component of the season tickets as part of what I already contribute to SJU which I will now adjust to reflect the amount paid with the tickets. As wife and I are alumni, we always think about what our degrees contribute to our work careers plus the any scholarship moneys received which we feel are being paid back. Now if Congress would restore deduction for charitable contributions, it would be better.
my accountant still says I can deduct SJU hoops as a tax loss :)

Does anyone recall when the Big East generally releases its schedule? I seem to remember it being sometime just before or after Labor Day last year but I could be mistaken.

Edit: question answered. I was able to find it - it was released on Thursday September 13th last year.
The only part of this program that's not mid-major are the ticket prices. High major prices does not turn a mid major into something elite. Prices should have been cut to Fordham/Hofstra levels until the school earned an increase.
To me it's a classic chicken before the egg/vice versa scenario. Should we only pay more once we start winning, or do we need to pay more now to help ensure that we start winning? I normally don't attend any games during the season (I live 8+ hours away), so personally I don't really have a dog in the fight. But as an outsider, I think Cragg made the wise decision to increase prices right away. It takes money to build a winning program; Cragg understands that. We need to give Anderson as many resources as possible to be successful. You don't want a scenario where it's 3-4yrs down the road, the Anderson experiment has failed, and one of the main reasons why is because of outdated facilities, lack of funding, etc...

Classic SJU fan reaction on this thread. Gimme a great facility and a great team, but don't ask me to pay for it until after it already exists.

It's a discretionary expense folks - if you don't want to fund it, then don't. Watch on TV or whatever. Nobody is forcing you to buy tickets. The school sets the price based on what they think will work for them (and hopefully what they think will help build the program). If their plan works for them, they'll continue with it. If it doesn't they won't.

By gimme a great facility are you referring to the one there have been rumblings about since the 1980's and in the over 30 years since they have barely managed to put lipstick on a pig? Announce some definite plans like the big boys do for once and start a fund raising campaign and maybe you would get some extra support. False illusions and allusions for over 30 years has rightly caused a high degree of skepticism.

People have been paying for a great team and great facility for a long time and neither are the case

*I think I miss you posting:blink:

Fair - but it's all relative. It isn't like season ticket prices are Knicks level - or Duke or Michigan or fill-in-the-blank level. I'd be curious what Nova tickets go for, if anybody knows.

Hope everything is good by you - touch base if you're going to a game (or need a ticket - i usually have a spare or two).

You're right a good comparison would be teams like Nova or Gtown who play the half or the majority of games in NBA arena.

Nova, Gtown, Xavier price list. Novas is from 17/18

Price increase would have been more palatable if the announcement would have been accompanied by a detailed capital improvements plan scheduled over the next few years.

This is ridiculous I just logged in to see what my increase looks like this is crazy last year I paid $1300 for my two seats this year it would be $2360 no way am I renewing at that price , I will just simply buy tickets on stub hub and go to some games. How can you justify that much of an increase in one year?

I get that Cragg wants to bring in a lot more money to be competitive. Makes complete sense. But the magnitude of the increase for season tix is shocking given the timing. This is a program that has not won an NCAA tournament game in what 20 years? That would put me at 10 years old. I'm now 30. While they have given us some glimpses of greatness with wins over Duke, Nova, Cuse 2x, etc. in recent years, our high water mark is lower than Butler, Xavier, Nova, PC, Marquette, G'Town, Creighton....basically everyone except DePaul. That's based on rankings during season, length of time staying ranked, and winning tourney games. I feel that our program hangs on way too much to 1985 as the Mets do to 1986. That may as well be ancient history 30+ years ago. My point is, they could've waited until having a hopefully inspiring season that opens many eyes to roll out huge increases. As a fanbase, we've been eating Ramen for decades while fans of other Big East programs have had some nice steak here and there. I encourage others to use Red Storm Pass which is by far the cheapest, most convenient option IMO if you can't go to all games and don't get season tix.

I am guessing that the price hikes are in alignment with other schools in the Big East. It's a big leap and is likely to cause a considerable number of non-renewals. To be honest though, for the Big East schedule at least, I'd much prefer to see St. John's play than the Knicks, all things considered.

Tomorrow is the deadline for decisions to be made for the renewal of your season tickets with the contribution to the Red/White Club.

I have not seen it mentioned here but you can spread out payment of the contributions until the end of St. John's 2019/2020 Fiscal year which is May 31, 2020. So you don't have to pay it all at once. I know spreading out your payments on your season tickets was an option in the past, but this year it seems it would be difficult based on the timing.

I understand the points on both sides regarding the increase. As mentioned, it is at our discretion as to what we want to do. They did something similar to this years back and I wound up giving up my tickets (the one year that I have not had them since I graduated). I came back (with worst seats although I like my MSG seats) as the program seem to be heading in the right direction. I gave up my Jets season tickets in the past also due to numerous factors.

Decisions, decisions.

I’m out I’m not paying $1,060 more then last year that’s too much of an increase in one years time they should have done this more gradually and waited till they were better.

After receiving the initial e-mail we decided to do the Red/White "donation." About a week and a half ago I went on the Ticketmaster site to execute the transaction, but it didn't work. I went back for three more days, still nothing. At that point I contacted this Sclafani guy as he was the contact listed on the mass e-mail. His answer was that ticketing wasn't his department, and he copied in some person named Melissa. So the e-mail listed a person to contact who has a stock answer of "not my job" - good stuff. Three more days passed and the website was still not operating and I also had received nothing from anyone at SJU about the situation.

At that point I wrote Sclafani again and copied in Cragg. I pointed out that it was basically crazy that the school wanted money from me and wouldn't help me pay them. I mentioned how I am also a Mets 20 game plan holder (and that the invoices are now about identical) and that I have a dedicated ticket representative who follows up personally with me all the time. If I contact him he gets back to me the same day guaranteed. And that this is not so fantastic, it is just basic customer service.

The good news (?) Cragg got back to me right away and said please respond back with my phone number so Sclafani could get right back to me - and that he (Cragg) would give me a call as well.

The bad news. Of course no one called.

What a bunch of idiots - and I'm sorry as I know a lot of you want to think the AD is on the ball but this rollout is on him and it is minor league all the way.

I know a lot of you said you were not going to do the "donation." And I get it. Well, the deadline is tomorrow and for the people who haven't pulled the trigger if you haven't received a phone call yet think about how nuts that is. The University is going to just passively sit back and not attempt to keep season ticket holders?

One of my questions was could someone verify my MSG location. I don't save my ticket stubs, doesn't the school have a database with that information? Shouldn't every ticket holder have gotten, at the least, a personalized e-mail that listed their location and the amount required?

I recall in the past, you could log in, and the previous seat locations were listed in your account. I tried and they are not.

If you remember your seat section, look at the MSG map, its color coded by section and there is a key to tell you what level contribution that section (see below).

As for them not calling you back, well I have no explanation nor is there a good excuse. Expect a phone call if you have been a long time season ticket holder, don't renew and they wind up with a shortfall of season ticket holders. I received a call last year because I hadn't renewed which was because I never received the notice.

This isn't surprising.
I had seats for 14 years I think. When I didn't renew not even a phone call asking why.

The other day I wrote Paul and he responded that Melissa would help. Melissa has been tremendous in the past. As you experienced she did not answer. So I called the ticket office. They said she was out until Wednesday. They answered my questions.
My thought is you have a contact person who sends you to another who is out but none of us know.
She returns to the office a day past the deadline? what gives?
Tonight I wrote Mike C. and gave him the update about the communication issue( an out of the office would be normal right?). Lets see what he says. He's been great responding in the past.
