Sanders Decommits

is this a st johns record for backing out after committing ? At least lets set a record

Anyone know if there are any legitimate plan B's, or are we just going with Storr and the guys we have returning?

“I feel like St. John’s is the best decision for me,” Sanders told The Post in a phone interview. “To be honest, I love the coaching staff. We talked every day, every other day. I felt like coming to St. John’s and staying in my city would be the best thing for me.”

Wait until we see how quickly our fans opinion of his game changes. I’m sure this decision won’t influence that at all.
I still think he's at least a 17-18 ppg guy as an upperclassman. But luckily I also think Pinzon will be pretty good, so this means more time for him if I'm trying to find a silver lining.

Think it's at least a recent record, but J'raan Brooks has got to be a close #2.

Florida has been good to us this year so.... let's dip back down into the sunshine. Who's with me!??

Here is the full quote from Jaquan Sanders on his decision to decommit:
"My mom doesn't want me to stay in New York. She wants me to go to another place she knows I'll stay focused and be focused. That was really it. It definitely was a tough decision. It was really hard. Decommitting wasn't really on my mind at first, but then a lot of things started happening. It was sitting down with my mom and having a serious conversation about it."

This was the chatter from when he committed.  Where he felt one way and others felt another.
If he goes to SHU its a bunch of crap to me.  That's not 'going away' to me.  If he truly goes away then different story.

I didn't want to mention this in his commitment thread, but I always felt Sanders committing here would 100% push someone to transfer eventually. Just seemed like not enough minutes to go around at the guard spots, especially since everyone wants to play right away and a lot. Hard to keep kids happy.

All good. Move on.  Agree if he goes to the Hall that isn’t “away”.  That said I’d love an even more athletic SG who can create off dribble a bit more.  Let’s go get it.

If you told me we would get neither of the two top OSL players I would have said you're nuts.  Go figure.

This isn’t a 5* player. I don’t think it’s a big deal at all.  He will find where he wants to go.  Good shooter and OSL kid but aside from that we will be more than fine aside from time spent on recruiting him.  Would like to see more athletic kids who can also shoot.

Let's not kid ourselves losing Sanders is a tough loss for the program. He would have been an excellent player for us from year 1. Understand he has to listen to his mom if that is the reason; wish him the best, staff needs to get in high gear now and I trust they will. Don't see this being related to Demeo suit at all.

I don’t think he was a year 1 contributor at all. Not even close btw.  He wouldn’t take minutes from Wusu, nor Pinzon and with Storr coming in it would be even tougher.  Good player for sure.  No sour grapes here, but far from irreplaceable.

Don’t love someone who doesn’t love you back.

Time for St. John’s and it’s fans to look forward and move on.

This reeks of shadiness whether it be by Seton Hall or another program. His family just decided today that Far Rockaway is too dangerous to be around, but it wasn't 20 days ago? Give me a break. I'm more upset at him and his handlers lying to our faces than him decommitting.

I'm not too concerned with replacing him though. Whether it be by an impact transfer or maybe another HS recruit we'll get somebody. Good player but not irreplaceable.

While I do think it's a noteable loss and this being bad news, who was Sanders going to start over or take significant minutes away from next year?  At the guard spots I don't see him beating out Posh, Mathis, Wusu, or Storr for a starting spot. I thought he'd be like 8th or 9th guy in the rotation next year, and be set to be a starter and major contributor starting in year 2.

Also, with the new transfer rules it's not always a bad thing if the kid doesn't immediately go to your school anymore, could end up working out when it's all said and done and he ends up a Johnny and we get his best years.

Kid is one of best players in the state, he's from Queens and plays at OSL, a school which we have a strong connection to
While there's nothing that we can do about this, and we gotta move on, let's not make it seem like it's no big deal that we lost him. Especially since it was a pretty big deal on this board when we got a commitment from him.
