Sampson BE Rookie of the week

Congrats to Jakaar and once again indirectly bad for SJU.

Deja vu? Feel like we have seen the way this story ends before. Esp with D'Lo's struggles the past couple games, it is great to see Jakarr step up. I know many of us thought Harkless needed another year, and maybe another year could have gotten in the top 10, but when you start hearing from multiple sources that first round is guaranteed, hard to pass that up.
Don't be surprised should we start seeing the same press in a couple weeks. Does he still have a lot to improve upon, of course, a projected nba SF who has only attempted 1 three (?), to beat the buzzer no less... but it is the potential teams look for. A bouncy 6'9 athlete that is averaging close to 15/game in the BE whose ceiling is no where in sight....tough to pass up for an NBA scout. Hopefully he hears he could go top 5 with one more year instead of top20. Def need this kid to stay if we plan to make a leap next year.

Sampson wants to be Rookie of the year. He saw Harkless do it and he is just as good if not better than him. I expect him to get it. If he keeps it up

Great Freshman year, but Harkless was really something special with a high upside. Imagine if we him and GG in the frontcourt this season?

So Karr isn't something special with high upside when their numbers are pretty much identical?

DraftExpress: According to my (Draft Express) research Jakarr Sampson would be the first SF ever to play in the NBA w/out hitting a college 3-pointer

I think that harkless' ability to play inside, and his quickness to the hole, along with explosive jumping that had him slam over people in traffic opened a lot of eyes. I don't think we ever had a player that could do that. That part of his game was not teachable. A shot can some, defense can improve, as can ball handling.

I'm not detracting from Sampson one bit. But I do think that Harkless was so attractive for his physical attributes.

Harkless had to play inside because of the depleted roster.

Jakarr showed that he could go inside against some trees in Cuse. I have been screaming for us to put Jakarr in the post for the longest. The staff has him in the high post.

Put Jakarr in the post and you can up his coring average 3-4 points and 2+ rebounds.

wasnt there some medical prediction that Harkless was still growing or something also ?

Hey Moe didn't crack 6'8" in stocking feet and Karr is shorter than he was. That, plus his limited range should keep him another year unless bad advice gets in the way. He shouldn't declare until the boys with the tape measures are done with him.

I know I know, nbadraft.net isn't the bible. But I will say that they've been around a long time, and this is what they do. They're usually pretty accurate with their rankings. The link above is their latest "Top 100 Board" and actually has Obepka in the 90s and rising. Sampson not on here yet, but it's something I'll be keeping an eye on.

If its not guaranteed first round then no one is leaving early.

One of the announcers of a recent game said that Sampson will be added to the Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Year award (Nat'l) list soon. Sampson will likely get some heightened attention from the media and scouts after that occurs.

I agree that he would benefit greatly from another year in college, but it gets a guarantee from a 3rd party that he will get drafted in 1st round he may bolt. I do think that his hesitancy in shooting teh 3 point shot may scare of some scouts (this year at least). But the way Sampson has continued to improve during the BE season has been impressive.
