Also: why are we up 30 and dumping the ball into Soriano in the post so he can dominate some kid who was playing D-3 last year? We're not learning anything doing that. Can we get the bench some valuable burn?
Steve Lappas kind of agreed with you in his post game comments.

Very tough game to gage much from the competition. But one thing that seems pretty clear to me, we are going to need Luis healthy to have a shot at making the Dance. Was glad to see Wicher have a better second half but still believe against quality opponents that Alleyne may be a better option at back up PG. I know that Brady is just a frosh but against this level of competition, as a 4 star recruit, he should have been better.

After the game the commentators don’t seem sold on the Johnnies. Lapas stated that against better competition they shoot poorly and have plenty of turnovers. Let’s hope the boys prove him wrong.

We’re already playing a much more competitive ooc schedule than any of the recent years. Dont we already have like 3 or 4 Q1 and Q2 games played? We have to play a few teams like this every year. Every decent team does.
Better yes but not great. While UConn, Marquette,Nova etc. are playing top 10-20 teams, I don’t believe we have played a game against a top 40 team.

I know SH isn't great, but if you are picked to win a conference they have some talent. To win as easily as we did isn't to be ignored.

Yes UConn has played some very nice top teams. But let’s not forget they played northern Arizona stonehill, Mississippi valley state, manhattan and New Hampshire. Some of those are real cupcakes like we’ve had in years past.

Our “cupcakes” this year are on a much better level. Yes not the top heavy like UConn has either. But next year it will be.

I agree, if we don’t get Luis back for conference play it will be tough for us

Don’t think it should be ignored and the positives were with our starting 5 and Soriano asserting himself against inferior competition. The negatives to me is that our bench didn’t impose their will.

However, this game tells us nothing about how this team will fare against conference teams where the players will be bigger, more skilled, better coached then SHs, quicker and far better shooters.

Alleyne had a quiet game. Didn't realize he was in 21 minutes.

starting five plus alleyne took care of business, but ledlum and Taylor were pretty poor offensively - still dominated while that 5 was out there. The biggest difference about this team is the effort they give on every play.

Also, there was some offensive sloppiness early as a result of making too many passes or forcing passes / and I loved it. They are looking for the extra pass and to feed their teammates a layup or open 3 - yea this needs to be reigned in but in a cupcake game like this seeing everyone over share rather than come out just to get theirs was refreshing.

As someone said, pitinos footprints already are all over this team.

I’ve been emphasizing to my 11 yr old about the effort he should give in practice and every play in games for years and he kind of yesses me…after watching the team today, he said in the car on his own that he is going to start giving effort all the time like St Johns does and that he noticed the difference. For me, that moment alone made the season. That’s how I remember St. John’s teams growing up that I wanted to emulate…glad we are finally back to that hungry attitude !

Stat that caught my eye was 6 assists for Soriano. Passing out of the double teams is one aspect of his game that needed to improve. Hopefully he is adding that skill with CRP's help. Joel is already good, and adding the ability to find the open man really ups his value for us and for his future.

Wow have an 11 year old. Time flies

Hard to take much from this kind of game, but it was good to see Soriano pick up 6 assists. We will need that from the front court the rest of the way because we don’t get many drive and kicks.

Wilcher disappointed slightly. I like everything Dingle does on offense and just which he got more chances to handle the ball.
